What are the things you must practice in order to be a top player?

When I'm playing fox all I fan think of is just nair, bair and chain grabs. I don't really know how to use fox's moves effectively much less getting into a mindset. (every time i play I just think about chaining combos and stuff I do stuff out of reactions which is a pretty bad habit)
I also need to learn techs but I don't know which tech skills are necessary and which one is impractical. If someone could help me with these problems that would be great

Practice your fundamentals like L cancel shffl and wavelands

Learn when and how to implement lasers. One thing I learned is shoot lasers if you have stage control, think of them as a reward for your good play. Also de-staling your moves and free percent is nice!
