I have a JW friend who is a very nice person, a lot nicer than a lot of people I know. The other day I met one of his friends who is also VERY nice. I'm thinking of giving their church a try, just because I like the conduct that I see in them.

What do YOU think the GOOD qualities of JW's are. I personally noticed that they don't curse (which isn't the most awesome thing in the world, but it is nice). They rarely put people down, they always seem to be in a "positive" mood. I noticed that they are very honest as well. What do you think?

Also, do NOT post anything along the lines of "they don't have any", and don't say "they are a cult". That's not what this thread is for. I've already heard all of the "cult" arguments, and personally ( having a friend who is a JW) I think said arguments are unfounded nonsense.

Their adherents have a lot of discipline to wake up early every morning. I guess you could learn that from them. They have enough members to be considered a mainstream religion and not a cult.

Some of the cons are that they beleive that only one hundred fifty thousand of their adherents are going to heaven, so good luck with that. They also don't believe in most holdiays. Or blood transfusions, organ transplants and other life saving medical procedures.

So you had better believe in it if you are going to do all that.

Wow, I didn't know about all that. I'll have to ask him about it. I do know about the 144,000 thing though. I guess that many are going to heaven, but everyone else (who is good) are going to live in a new Eden, sometime in the future, here on Earth, so it's not as bad as it sounds.

To add on to this, they also believed the world was going to end on multiple occasions in the past, making them false prophets.

And the blood transfusion deal is as serious as it sounds, if a JW has a baby that needs a certain kind of blood to live, they will let the baby die.

I could go on, but I'm supposing you want positive things...good luck with getting really any from anyone but JW's

Well, they're really upbeat, happy people. I have never seen a dysfunctional JW family. I'm sure they exist, just not as much as our dysfunctional Baptist families.

They can do what they want and practice what they want, as long as they stop approaching me with fliers at the gas station!

You get to pitch your religious ideas to people around your local area and get doors slammed on your face every weekend. What could possibly be better >.>

This is going to turn into another debate when someone who gets offended easily comes in.

And, their dedicated people I suppose.

I heard it was only 70000 that would be chosen?

Also Venus and Serena Williams are Jehovahs witnesses (random but true.)

The blood transfusion thing is true, In the UK a woman who had complications during birth needed a blood transfusion but wouldn't let them so she died, there was alot of contraversy about it and imo they should have given her the blood anyway. She would have seen they were right in the end.

The number is 144,000. They base it off of revelation 14:1. And the blood thing they base off of Acts 15:29.
I like the fact that they, out of all christian religions, preach.(wait, do mormons consider themselves christian?) Isn't that what Christ told his disciples to do?

Just like the jews they get made fun of alot... and muslims.

Well I've known a jehovah's witness family since I was born, really. I really like them a lot. I don't think the reason I like them is because they are jehovah's witnesses, in fact I like them purely because of their personalities. I deter myself from any discussion of religion or sexuality because I know they are homophobic and I do not wish to argue.

By the way, the most simplified definition of a cult, the one proving method of being a cult, is that the group has to have a charismatic leader. "Faith" and et cetera has to be placed in this leader. I don't know if the jehovah's witness organization has this kind of leader, so I wouldn't be able to class it as anything.
