Hey guys!

I'm just posting in support of Apex. From what I can tell, it seems like it's going to be the next "genesis" and "pound 4". So you guys shouldn't miss it!

So far, they are promising Armada + European players. Along with Japanese players and of course the top USA players. So there should be a very good competition for everyone.

As for housing and transportation, they have promise us:

- Free Housing
- A TOUR of NYC/NJ by Me/Keitaro/Peirce7d/Crismas including 42nd street/empire state building/central park
- Smashfests also everyday
- Since it will be Summer a trip to Coney Island beach

Apex is shaping up to be a huge tournament so West Coast should check it out!

Correct me if I am wrong, but only out of country OOC players get free housing I think. That's what I surmised from the thread. Only thing I'm iffy about is how rides will work to and from the airport. 50-100 dollar cab rides doesn't sound fun if you're not traveling with big group.

I talked to a couple other smashers who are tentatively going.

I myself hella want to go.

Rides, housing, whatever. In the words of Nike, "Just Do It."

EDIT: Hi Bobby :D

i think it's time to start looking into booking this ****

i want to go the weekend before and spend the week leading up maybe doing city stuff (in NY, and maybe in philly too)?

hotels and stuff too probably, at least for during the tournament

anyone else want to do a similar plan?

p.s. i'm not spotting anyone $$$ anymore since i got burned last time

yeah gee, if you could save that 50 bucks on a hotel, you would've dropped 400 on flight/entry

that makes sense

ok i think my plan is to fly in the week before (something like Saturday, July 31) into philly or nyc
spend 2-3 days there
trek up/down to NYC/philly (whichever one i didn't fly into)
spend 2-3 days there
go to the tournament
...
then abandon everyone i traveled with and go visit my parents in NJ (i assume anyone else would probably want to go home by then)

i intend to stay with smashers (pakman in philly, still working on someone for NY-ish) outside of the tournament and at the hotel for the tournament proper (unless someone unlikely comes through for me)

airline is looking like ~300-400 for a round trip but of course it varies wildly with flight dates and flying into NYC vs philly (in my experience, philly is slightly cheaper)

tournament housing would be like $50-60 for 3 nights i'm guessing? (without doing any real research)

transit from NYC to philadelphia to the venue area then back to whatever airport you're flying out of is probably like $30-40 (via NJTransit, which generally blows but we're flexible travelers) unless we are lucky enough to hitch a ride (maybe)

and of course I'd set aside like $8-10/day for transportation within the cities (subway, bus, whatever)

oh and $55 for entry

So anyway, that adds up to about $550

not to mention the price of any food you want to consume, souvenirs, tickets for shows, WHATEVER on top of it (i'd bring at least $150 if we're planning to burn a week, though i'd recommend more)

i personally would like to maybe hit up a baseball game and a broadway show, plus the obligatory aimless wandering

justin's tentatively in on this plan. anyone else?

i'm probably going to start booking stuff (mainly the airplane) by the end of this month (which is when the price for tournament entry starts to go up, but as you can see, the entry fee is going to pale next to any travel expenses) ... point being i'd really only like to hear about it if you have very serious interest (and are available for the approximate length of time and have the necessary finances to follow through)

talk to me on aim = 'horizonflash' if you're interested, or even if you just want to do mundane partial stuff like sharing a hotel room during the tournament

It wouldn't be 400 on flight/entry for me. Does it make sense now?

Actually I think I can spend 400 throughout the whole trip.
200 for round trip tickets.
55 for entry.
The rest for food, I just didn't want to spend more money on a hotel where I would be sleeping on the floor anways.

i've never really bought into the "bigger is better" aspect of tournies. give me a great 1 day tourny and that's all i need. 2-3 days of ridiculous unhealthiness / staying up all night and eating junk food during the day really isn't my cup of tea.
