I think Crocodile has the hots for Mathilda. No wonder he was trying to kill Clive earlier.

But at the same time, it's quite low for Crocodile to try winning Mathilda after her fiancé just died.

It's the equivalent to Faye being passive aggressive and trying to win Alm over after he got into that argument with Celica at the end of Act 2, except here, it is much worse since we have a death that splits two lovers apart instead of a fight.
