Weird Mario Trick, Possibly Tech?

While Playing as Mario, I found that his fireball has a neat trick. If you use the fireball, and then immediately tilt the control stick in the opposite direction, he'll turn around instantly. This even works in midair. And I've also found that doing that move in midair will have Mario fall faster, although that could just be standard DI. Is this a tech that I found, or just some weird trick?

Edit: I also tried this out with Luigi, and it works with him just as well.

Pivot specials? I've never heard of that term before. What other characters does it work with?

It's called wavebouncing (or B-Reversal). Anyone can do it.

I know for a fact Ness, Ganondorf, and CF can do it, but everyone else should be able to do it as well.
