Web Hosting Suggestions?

Asking everyone what is a good recommendation for a web host. Looking for something with PHP/CSS and MySQL databases (any amount is fine).

Had a host many years back with GoDaddy. Don't recall why they sucked. Either they had no databases or they don't have key essential PHP support.

As for 1and1...

Now I'm with 1and1. Worst. Service. Ever. Ever. Ever. I started with a Linux Beginner Package. No databases. Switched to MS Beginner. Again. No Databases along with MANY OTHER FEATURES. Ten days ago, I switched to Beginner package. NO FTP ACCESS. Seriously. No FTP access. How do you get away with that?! They said a domain transfer would take some time and that purchasing another package would take the same amount of time (24 hours). The new package, however, shouldn't have any problems.

In short, I hate 1and1.

Anyone have a suggestion that is "competent"? It'd mean a lot to me.

Should've specified the need for a domain name free from company labels. Google Sites/Geocites aren't exactly the kinds of sites I need. I need a full fledged host. I don't mind paying. Not at this point.

I personally use www.freedomain.co.nr for my domain name. It's true, it really has no ads, and the only thing it requires you to do is link back to its main site somewhere on your front page. If you don't, they have bots that track whether or not your page has a linkback to their site, and if there's no linkback, they disable the domain name. I haven't had that happen, those are just straight from their rules because I remembered them.

The thing about full site hosting sites is that they usually have a ton of ads and/or you have to pay. Usually both. But I use Google Sites + freedomain.co.nr and I have my own site, no ads, and not a cent of money spent. I'm really not sure of other sites you could try that don't either have a ton of ads, make you pay, or don't fully support CSS and MySQL. I haven't tried any site besides G Sites personally, but here's a list of a few hosting sites you could try: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_free_web_hosting_services

Hope this helps more. :o

That as well. Any site that doesn't necessarily need to use their name in the domain? I don't want to purchase a plan with a provider not knowing if it's good.

I use bluehost. Way better than godaddy, after using both for a few years. I would go back to bluehost for any other site I put up.
