WD punishable Up-smashes

I've always thought it's possible to punish an Up-smash from Fox by WD'ing out of shield, in fact, I could have sworn I've done it before.

But I tried this recently and I can't do it anymore. The shieldstun seems to last forever; I push jump as soon as I shield the attack and Popo does nothing. If I have to wait a long time for the shieldstun to wear off, then it's obviously not an effective technique anymore. Same goes for Pikachu's Up-smash. It's extremely frustrating to see one coming a mile away and not be able to do anything about it.

Have I been wrong this whole time? Is it actually possible/practical to WD-punish these Up-smash out of shield?

After some research, it's fully possible. See 2:20-2:23ish in this video. Chu clearly WDs out of his shield and grabs Cunning Kitsune's Fox after shielding a usmash. Nana is gone too, so you see just Popo do it. There could not be a clearer shot of it.

You should watch the whole match acualy, it's a great match. The music just abosolutely wins at life too.

Aha, I KNEW I've seen it done somewhere (I've seen that video). I guess I just need to time it better, and it also looks like you need to do a perfect WD out of the shield.

what chudat does is, he realizes taht the fox only does a upkick (usmash) after the jab a, so he horiz WD out of the way... its really not as phenomenal as you say... my friends like to just run and up smash, which is really really gay...

Spontaneous Spaz, you're looking at the wrong part. Chu wavelands backwards to avoid the first usmash (what I think you're looking at), then about 5 seconds later, he shields a jab -> usmash, then waveshields out of it and grabs the Fox (what we are looking at).

Also, Lixivium, if you do need to do a perfect WD for this to work, it's probably because you carry your maximum speed longer, so you reach Fox sooner. Even against a max density shield, a Fox usmash pushes you quite far away from him. You probably don't have much of a margin for error.

You don't have a margin for error at all I main fox and i had a friend try this and he couldn't pull it of and he is quite good.
