From todays update I can almost certainly promise that waveshining and pillaring are no going to be in brawl.

Behold; the physics of fox's d+b shine have change. Fox pulls out a device and deflects...

Its not 100% but Ide bet money on it...

Waveshining and Pillaring = gg

and I play Falco...

and who knows if he's even in the freakin game lol.

:chuckle:

What? I don't follow your logic (is there any)? Please explain further.
I'm saying they went into the effort of changing the way fox performs his shine; fox now pulls out a side device and deflects.

Now the animation speed or frames put into the move may have changed so im saying its possible that he cant cancel into wavedash now.

and if the same were true, falco couldn't jump out of his shine.

Its a theory but im guessing its true.

Doesn't confirm anything. There's no reason that Fox's shine won't still be instantaneous because Peach pulls turnips from her *** and this game doesn't have to make sense.

So you think there will be a lag? I think this has been discussed somewhere else. i would search.

But it's highly unlikely there will be any lag time, as the shine is supposed to be used to reflect projectiles, and the lag would make it too slow for that. making it pretty much useless, which won't happen.

If the developers of this game have any common sense and are aware of the high level of play you can reach, then jumping out of shine will be a thing of the past, which is the only reason why space animals have such an advantage.

Of course, those screenshots and descriptions of Brawl tell us nothing of the actual gameplay. Then again, speculation is fun.

The most logical thing to do is to keep the shine as it is,why?

1.Land canceling is ineffective, and disrupts the reflector. Not being able to jump out of it in the air makes you a sitting duck.

2.Since the shine is treated like a shield,it makees it so that if it's not in use you can jump out of it.That's one of the main reasons why it's jump cancelable, because it was programmed to act as a shield.

3.Giving it start up lag and ending lag would make it useless as a reflector.

This,is atleast my opinion.

That's built on the assumption that the designers think the competitive stuff is bad. I would say that there's a darn good chance that jump-cancelled shine was intended (whether or not they expected it to be taken to its current extreme).

I have always believed that the highly competitive side of smash was deliberate but masked, so that the game would appeal to both casual and competitive players. Jump-cancelled shine is a great way to hide a competitive technique behind a simple move, so while it may be adjusted, I expect it to stay.

Mario has a reflection move with wound-down frames...perhaps they'll just lengthen Fox/Falco wind-down frames....still useful as a reflector initially, but during wind-down you could be caught

well all you said so far is asumptions that arent back up by anything half the game doesnt make logical sence so you wont actually till the game is released.

I think giving the shine a bit o' lag would actually be balancing. Not only do Fox/Falco have an instant reflector, they also have an attack that can get off before you can do anything if they manage to get in range. And then they can get right out of it with no lag.

But that opinion's totally biased considering I play Samus and the only person I get a lot of practice with mains Falco. If anything, it's made me a much better Shield Reflector.

Visiting from above.
I honestly don't understand why people are so ****ing hung up on whether wavedashing or waveshining or ETCETERA is back. Who ****ing cares?? This is a NEW game, if EVERYTHING from the old game returned, I'd be pretty pissed off. I'm glad they're changing it up. If you want to wavedash, waveshine, and ETCETERA, then play Melee.
