WaveShine problems

Okay, well, as you can tell from the title of the post I am having trouble wave dashing out of my shine. I usually go for the down-a aerial, then L-cancel and shine, then the problems start. Normally when I try to wave-dash out of the shine, I end up just jumping. I can wave-land the jump, so I can usually still combo, but I want to get the wave-shine combo down to really improve my game. Any suggestions?

Yeah, that makes sense. I guess I press it too quickly and it doesn't register. When I was learning to drill l-cancel shine, The same thing was happening to my shine. I was pressing it too quickly and it wasent happening.

Thanks for the reply!

Scumfever is right, your controller isn't picking up the inputs because you are doing them too fast. It sounds like you are hitting the L/R button before you even begin jumping (i.e.: during your shine's hitlag). Slow down the whole process; make sure you hit L/R after you jump, almost simultaneously. Fox's jump is so fast his WD with say, X+R - is a quick click on both buttons at the same time.

Try not to squeeze L/R before he jumps, or you'll just go straight up without airdodging.

When i Waveshine I use X and L to move, also the farther your holding the control stick horizontal, the more horizontal distance u will go.I do this also too fast at times =/

isn't it the same thing.
shine, WD backwards (but don't hit back before jumping, otherwise you will turn around).

Correct.

Shine -> JUMP FIRST -> tilt control stick at desired angle and wavedash.

Most people condense the tilting and jumping steps into one big step. You'll get a hand set-up that simulates regular waveshining, which is bad. Performing it this way, most people actually hit backwards before jumping and end up turning around. With regular waveshining we are taught that after hitting down B, you tilt forward and WD at the same time. When you do this backwards, you don't realize that you might be tilting before you're jumping because you're doing it at the same time. You turn around and wavedash forward.

The key here is to focus on not tilting the control stick backwards until you've hit the jump button. Seperate the them in your mind so you understand whats happening and how to correct it.

Shine
jump
angle and wavedash.

What I normally do is shine and while my control stick is down i just slightly slide it to the wavedash point then jump and hit R out of it. It comes out full perfect everytime for me.

The only problem with this is that it makes it hard to waveshine backwards.

when i do it theres a distinct click click as i first do control stick down then press b then release controlstick then press y and hit controllstick to the direction i want to go followed by L. This works best for me and I'm getting pretty consistent with my perfect wavedashs out of shine

To be frank, I can't even Waveshine yet. I've looked for threads explaining it and got nothing.

-PM-'s posts gave me a pretty clear idea on how to do it so thanks man.

why would you, just turn around after your first one.
It's technically faster to waveshine backwards as opposed to turning around (takes 3 frames to turn around in the shine). It's not a big deal, but for some players it screws with timing (myself included). Also you could do neat stuff like waveshine backwards to uptilt, as opposed to turning around in the shine --> wavedash out if it --> pivot uptilt. Now that's just harder.

The difference is minimal, but backward waveshines have its uses. It looks pretty hawt too. lol

Did you try looking in any of the stickied threads? There's CunningKitsune's guide on how to do just about everything fox-related. Then there's Silent Wolf's compilation of other fox stuff, including all-things waveshine, lasers, and such. Just check the stickies for these things; everything's there (barring the shine bair). Or ask in the Questions and Answers thread. Imo, the fox boards have been blessed with the best teaching guides on Smashboards. Most other characters don't have guides as comprehensive as ours.

Any character that has to be frame perfect waveshined shouldn't be waveshined anyway.

plus you could just turn around utilt not pivot. Better yet just grab or usmash out of your waveshine. Or thunders lol.

When did I say anything about needing to waveshine anyone frame perfect? And I'm not saying that those moves are worse follow-ups than what I posted earlier; I was just saying that there's nothing wrong with knowing how to do backward waveshines (waveshine --> ledgegrab).

Lol, yeah, that's what I meant. Turn --> uptilt.

Because 3 frame advantage is big.
It couldn't hurt. :/ The difference messes with some people's timing, like how it feels a little different when you waveshine and actually hit someone, as opposed to just waveshining the air. Anyway, that wasn't really what I was trying to get at.
