What exactly is Snake doing in this GIF? It looks strange for a roll dodge / forward-B. You don't even see his shield come up...

It's a roll. I've seen wavedashing videos and such and the movement doesn't really look like it. Wavedashing looks like the character is just kinda standing there while sliding backwards/forwards/potatowards while this more or less looks like Marth's roll from Melee.

It probably is a standard roll. Two things I notice though, one, Snake doesn't flash (invincibility frames) and two, he recovers from it much more quickly than any roll I've ever seen.

But it would be cool if it is something new.

On a sidenote, I think Snake's dsmash (if that's what it is) is pretty stupid. It just feels like they're trying too hard to be creative, like with Mario's fsmash in Melee. Give me the ol' haymaker any day.

Pit did something like it in one of the trailers (2nd one), but I actually thought Pit's roll was ALOT faster than Snake's (it was like a mewtwo roll, on mario kart stage).

Maybe people have different rolling speeds?

I think he is talking about after the roll. He rolls, then comes back by what is suggested as a WD and does his rocket.

yea Im with jesterbox it looks like a wavedash, but im pretty sure it might be a new technique put in brawl that resembles a wavedash and prolly is, but it was prolly thrown in their as a way to make people who wavedash and people who dont wavedash happy. Srsly then they cant complain about wavedash is glitch abusing.

I went back through the trailers and I noticed that both Metaknight and Pit did a strange maneuver that seemed like a combination of a wavedash and a roll.

I think that it's likely that Sakurai removed Melee's form of wavedashing because it was an unintended technique, but he did add something similar that could be used as a legitimate move. I think it makes sense because it's unlikely that something unintended like wavedashing would keep the game balanced in the way Sakurai originally intended, but he could incorporate these wavedash-esque elements as a legitimate technique that is taken into account in the balancing of the game's characters.

It looks like a combonation Roll/Wavedash to me, now that I saw the other two pictures. Maybe they officially incorperated it into Brawl, maybe even made it as easy to perform as some other techniques. (I dunno...R or L + Diagonally down Left/Right?)

He means after he rolls, he seemingly wavedashes forward before he does his rocket launcher attack. It doesn't look like a roll at all, stop saying it does.

Probably playing TF2.
none of those were wavedashs actually.they wouldn't be changing directions of the way the were facing if it was a wave dash(solid Snake gif)

the Wario one is just a side step like in SSBM

edit:i hope u guys are remembering that this is just a trailer not actual game testing. >.>

How can people not see it? After Snakes rolls behind Pit, he slides forward and shoots his bazooka. Let me rephrase that, he slides forward all the while facing the same direction. I'm not saying it's a wavedash, but it is way closer to it than a roll. It's not hard to see.
