I know Jel had posted a reminder about the GC events a while back, but I wanted to make a thread to post upcoming events for the Washington scene as well as results from those events. We have an active community, but most of our planning goes through our facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1587154954872675/), so I wanted to get some info out on smashboards as well.

The two upcoming events as of right now are North West battlegrounds on Saturday, July 11th at High Line Community College in Des Moines, WA (https://www.facebook.com/events/784158871699487/) and a regional event being held in Bellingham, WA on August 1st and/or 2nd (https://www.facebook.com/events/1589332761335632/). There was talk of potentially trying to start a side bracket at the Blackwolf monthlies in Eastern Washington, but that hasn't been followed through on.

On top of this, there is a somewhat of an established weekly event at EPG in Renton on Thursdays. This is mostly dependent on @McGodd attending, but there is typically a setup and occasionally a round robin bracket.

Bellingham just hosted their first monthly tournament at Dark Tower, and it seemed to be a success. There was a 64 bracket at the event, and I assume that as this continues, the 64 brackets will as well. I will post more information about this as a receive it.

cool smurf great thread idea & thanks for posting those links... remember me? my friend & i from sequim gave you a ride home from a gameclucks tourney in a red truck maybe 8 months ago or so (we stopped & ate at an arby's on the way). i was the passenger & kirby/pika player that beat your yoshi on peach's castle but lost to your pika both times on dreamland.

i've gotten a lot better since then & i'm now looking to expand our local sequim scene 15 miles away to port angeles, the next town over (it has a ferry to canada... is everyone from our 'little sister to the north' paying attention?):

on thursday, july 2nd, there should be a smash 4 tourney at the 'anime kat' bookstore in port angeles... i've gotten the go-ahead to bring 64 & people have expressed interest in playing so we'll see what comes of it.

their facebook page is 'peninsula competitive smash' & they have a capture card now so maybe i'll upload some matches here later. they also hold tourneys at the very nearby & famous 'white crane martial arts' studio, so i'll see if i can get 64 in there as well.

Yeah I remember you and your buddy. Haven't seen you and your buddy in a while, but it is quite a hike up from Sequim. Feel free to post about the event in our facebook page. When I get home from work, I'll look into posting the tournament info to get the word out. Seems like the best way to get new people into the game is to just go to fests/tournaments with a 64 and setting it up, then trying to get people to play and come out to the next event.

a guy working there said it usually runs that day but things could change... it's on their calendar though.

just gonna test the waters this week it'll be the first time i try to get 64 in... i'll keep you guys posted on whether this turns into a scene or not once i see how it goes.

the tournament director likes 64 & wants to incorporate it so that sounds promising. :)

edit: not happening due to the 4th; next one's the 18th... ugh.

update: yeah my attempt to start up a local 64 scene was somewhat of a flop... everyone seemed a lot more interested in playing smash 4. gonna try again at the next one on the 24th, as that will be at a different venue, but i'm not gonna hold my breath.

if bellingham wasn't 3 hours away i'd be more willing to trek over--it sounds like a lot of fun... any other north olympic peninsula players around? starting to feel pretty isolated here.

Use craigslist. FB. Try to get friends from highschool or college if you're from the area. Search on google. Make a tinder moment (I did this and I've found a bunch of chicks that are down to smash and get smashed). Check out local colleges and see if they have gamer groups.

well there is a local community college (peninsula college) the next town over in port angeles... could be a good spot to check so thanks for the ideas.
