By the time he has countered your recovery, illusion or firefox will be above the ledge and not touching the wall at all. To wall tech, input the tech command before getting hit, and during the hitlag SDI into the ledge, that should produce a floortech or a walltech depending on whether you SDI'ed into the floor or the wall.

Try the quarter circle DI, when i started doing this, the hardest thing about SDIing and ASDIing would probably just remembering to do it. Like l-canceling sort of

Does the "pause" during the counter count for the teching time frame? If that's the case, shouldn't you press R/L right as you get countered since it takes a while for you to get hit? I dunno.

The pause is still hitlag, so you have tech before the pause, but late enough so the entire duration of the counter will end within the next 20 frames.

Ooh that makes sense...no wonder why it seems harder to tech than other hits. Basically the timing window to tech is much less than 20 frames?

Yes, the longer the hitlag the more precise timing is needed.

The hardest thing to time would be Samus's charge shot giving a whopping 18 frames of hitlag, meaning you've only got a 2 frame window to react.

However you would get a humongous 19 inputs of DI possible, so even if you aren't wallhugging you can quarter circle SDI and double stick with ASDI to influence yourself to the wall. Note that it's humanly impossible to get all frames, but with good practice you can get a good amount of inputs in.

A sweetspot would avoid attack entirely unless he jumped off with the counter.

You still need at least ASDI (just point your C-stick at the ledge) if it hits you because you're not really touching the ledge just yet.

You don't need to SDI unless you're all the way above the stage. Works the same as a normal edgetech.
Yup, unless your Falcon or Ganon, you don't really need to DI if you're wall hugging, I still do it by habit though.

Wall hugging might not be available all the time, so it's a good habit, or at least that's what I like to tell myself at night.
