Can anyone give me some advice on how to play a Rob? I played this one kid today who kept constantly using the gyro and the laser, and whenever I got close he would grab me n down or backthrow me. Anyone have any ideas?

You're gonna need good spacing to beat RoB. His aerial moves have priority and range, so be careful. Be agressive, but also be defensive at the same time.

As far in terms with the gyro tops, evade or block them. You can throw them away if you want, but i suggest you give them a taste of their own medicine, since you can combo with it.

When close, don't try to Out Dsmash him. ROB's Dsmash is the fastest in the game and can be hard to punished (especially side dodge then Dsmash) IMO. As soon as the Dsmash frame ends, nair or Fair them. You can try a Dsmash, but I wouldn't reccomand it.

When on the edge, don't fight him or make much of an effort to Gimp him unless GARANTEED. His dair can spike you if missed or failed shuttle Loop and his nair canpush you away from the edge or possibly gimp. His back air makes a good edgeguard. your best bet is either try to fly over him, or somehow trick him into getting back on the stage.

I fought a ROB player today who managed to beat me from spamming Laser/Gyro, and he did it like half the match and constantly running away from me. The problem with Mach Torando and Drill Rush is that they're both canceled out by both of ROB's projectiles, which makes approaching a ROB who can consistently spam these two projectiles very difficult. Addmitedly it was partially my own fault for not breaking through his pattern, but even then it's pretty **** annoying to deal with.

Then you're gonna have to play evasive. It'll take some time for R.O.B. to fully (or get it decent) that top of his, so what you wanna do is go aerial. Keep close to him and don't give him no room to breath. Lasers that'll somewhat sting you are somewhat shorter to wait. So for like each time he charges and shoots a top, a decent laser would be ready to be already fired. Just know how he works and punish. Down B may help a bit.

Maining both MK and ROB, I can tell you that this matchup HIGHLY favors MK. Your mach tornado is extremly effective against him and he has an incredibly hard time escaping. It is much easier to gimp him than most people think because he CAN'T AIRDODGE when he is using his recovery. Finally, be agressive and don't let him camp because he is very good at this. Also, when you manage to get a hold of his gyro, toss it straight up in the air. It will be completely useless for a while and will most likely disappear when it hits the ground again. Also, just remember that he packs a punch with many moves like neutral-A which has amazing range too. However, these have a lot of startup lag that can be easily punished or predicted. Finally, be aware of getting in to close because of his down-smash. It is brutal. No lag and packs quite a punch. He likes to side-dodge into this so try to predict it.

All in all, you want to be aggresive enough so that he can't utilize his projectiles well but still be wary to dodge his more powerful moves which can then be punished. Trust me, ROB may be a slightly unorthodox character, but once you learn his playstyle, you'll realize that you definitely have the upper hand.

mk is the best aerial attacker in the game. air speed is where you beat a ROB with really anyone. shield the gyro and it vanishes. he telegraphs the laser, just pay attention. the d-smash isn't really a killing move so you can affotd a few whiffs into it. but if you shield it, mk can easily get an f-tilt in afterwards. as for killing blows, mk's shuttle loop is fast, his glide attack and nair also have baby eating knockback. all else failing, spam the tornado like all the other shameless metaknights.

its all about predicting the lasers or gyros. if you stay in the air he is much less likely to hit you with either. also try and stop him from charging the gyro at all, use an airial approch so he cant just shoot it at you right away but dash toward him first so you can get their in time.
