Voice chat

Alright, so I've been reading up on voice chat, because it seems like it would work well with Brawl. (especially if you have a wireless headset)

So there's 3 good voice chat programs, but I don't know which one would be best.

Teamspeak - Easier to use, but voice quality isn't as good.
Ventrilo - A bit harder to use, but great voice quality.
Skype - I've used skype, and I can tell you it's amazing. It's both easy to use, has great voice quality, AND has lots of features.

IRC isn't exactly the best for Ssbb. It's not for beginners and takes some setup. It's not as fun or easy as Skype.

You see, in teamspeak and ventrilo, you have to set up servers with Ip's and stuff...with skype, you have a buddy list, so you can add all of your Brawl friends and see whos on or offline. Then, you can choose to do a single voice chat with them or make a conference, which can hold up to 5 people, perfect for Brawl, considering there are 4 player matches. Skype just seems like it was custom made for Brawl.

But just in case, I'm asking you guys, what would you recommend for Brawl?

I'm gonna have to go with Skype, easily. No doubt about it. :)

Eh...if you end up using voice chat that means you just play with your friends...I don't do the exchange and give out friend codes thing...too lazy...too time consuming...and I think I'd be better of just going to the "play with anyone option".

yep skype is free :)
Yes, and without a doubt, Skype is practically made for Brawl!

All you do is go to Brawl forums, get people's skype usernames, add them to their buddy list. If you see someone on, either send them a message or send them a voice chat invitation, and ask them if they want to Brawl.

I plan on getting a wireless headset and talking with a couple other people while playing Brawl. Or I'll just talk with my teammate and we can talk and give each other hints over voice chat while Brawling.

Skype is also generally laggier, but I prefer private conversations rather than ones that anyone with server information can barge in and talk on. Tons of private channels gets frustrating.

I think Skype and Brawl will work well for friend matches, honestly. Especially since my computer is right next to my Wii XD (and my Wii actually plays on my second computer monitor).

Exactly. Have you seen all of those Ventrilo harassment videos? You wouldn't want that to happen while Brawling. Skype is just...perfect. You can see whos online and offline, without just having a "server" And say you want to battle another friend. Instead of waiting for him to join the server or trying to get a hold of him to tell him to join, just see if hes online, message or voice him, and bam, you'll be battling another friend.

It's just perfect. Brawl+Skype = :)

See the thing is, that would be funny. I would laugh like crazy if people came in and was being annoying during brawl every now and then. But the thing is, they keep doing it and doing it and get worse until you get annoyed which takes the fun out of it. If they did it every now and then it would be funny though.

As fun as it sounds though, Vent doesnt seem to work good enough with Brawl...you have to make "Servers" and...meh...it won't work. Skype is easier.

Using Vent for voice chat would be pretty cool, I s'pose. Doesn't look like Nintendo is giving us any other option.

Sacrificing playing Smash with friends because it's too "time-consuming" to put in 12 numbers? I mean, I know Friends Codes are dumb, but that just sounds a little silly.

No no no. We aren't gonna do vent. We all agreed on Skype. It's easier, better, and more fun. Skype is perfect for Brawl!

I think I'm probably just gonna go with IRC or see what they get here on smashboards for finding matches. I don't have a wireless headset for Skype and my computer is too far away for my wired headset.

How about calling your friends on a phone? It would be cool if you could hook up your Brawl account to ventrillo, and if someone with Ventrillo active has a Brawl account and you face them in With Anyone, you could talk...I don't care abou voice chat anyways so...

So...who agrees on using Skype instead of IRC? It's so obvious that it works better for Brawl.

Using a phone would work only problem is I don't want to give out my number to people here on the boards, not that I don't trust yall or anything just not everyone is trustworthy. So in that case skype sounds good to me.

I don't know much about Skype, nor did I read every reply to this thread, but does it support up to 4 people voice chatting?

Skype, but isn't there a chance that we'll get some kind of voice chat for friends? I thought I heard a rumor about that.

Yes. Actually, it supports up to 5. Not really a difference, but you can have one extra person it there just for fun.

Does your wii have to be near your computer in order for it to work??
For voice chatting? It depends. If you have a wired headset/microphone, then yes, but if its wireless, then it doesn't have to be close. It might have to be sort of near it, but maybe not.

That was just for the Wii in general. They weren't talking about specifically for Brawl. And plus, even if they were, I doubt it would be out by the time Brawl is out.

For now, Skype is the answer.

No problem. Make sure to join the forum: Www.smashfun.co.nr

All people who are going to get skype and meet friends to play online with are gathering there. Its pretty new and kind of empty now, but its just getting started.

I used Ventrilo first so I'm most used to that. And my guild in World of Warcraft now likes to use Team Speak so I gotten used to that lately.

I've never used Skype so I'm not sure how it is. But I'm guessing it would be cool.

You see, Ventrilo is great. But it's not as good for Brawl. Skype is more for Brawl. Ventrilo is better for Mmorpgs, like Wow you said, because in games like that, when you are adventuring or whatever, you are usually with the same people the whole time you are playing, so you just stay in a Ventrilo server to keep constant communication.

Skype is different, and perfect for Brawl. It's basically a chat like Aim or Msn, where you have a buddy list and stuff, not only can you text chat, you can voice chat. And in Brawl, you're not going to keep battling the same person over and over. Sure, you will a lot of times, but not constantly over and over...you'll switch a lot and fight different people, and with Skype, it's easy to switch. You could be like "guys, I'm gonna battle someone else, I'm gonna talk to them and I'll be back in a bit"

Then, you leave the conference, request a voice chat with someone else you wanna fight, and thats it. You don't need to have some kind of server like on Vetrilo with an IP address and whatever.

Ventrilo = Mmorpgs
Skype = Brawl

I'm sorry, but if I didn't tell you all my opinion, I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight.

If Nintendo could, or wanted to, use voice chat in a game, why haven't they before? And don't give me that "Brawl is gonna be a big game event in the history of La-dee-da", because that's a load of crap. also, the "Nintendo is newto internet" line doesn't work on me either, because that doesn't stop voice chat from being old tech.

just try to make that not stupid. ok it's easy but still.
