Using the cape to edge guard

In Melee you could use your cape to turn your opponent around when they were trying to get back to the stage. Does this still work in Brawl? I know it will still work with Fox, Falco, and probably Wolf, but will it work for anybody else. I'm wondering about this because characters will now grad the ledge if they aren't facing it.

u know.... recovery is easier than melees
u can recover while facing the opposite side of the ledge as well..so....i suggest to use others, more effective ways to edgeguarding

Nope, cape edgeguarding will not work this time because...

1. auto-sweetspotting
2. even if the sweetspotting fails, you can grab the ledge while facing away from it

In Melee it gave them a little lift up in the air as well. They still couldn't move because of the after-lag of their up-B. That usually gave a free hit. But that was in melee :/.

Big, spooky castle in eastern europe.
With the edgespotting and general in Brawl, you'd have to get out so far to use it that your opponent hasn't come close enough to use their up B. Of course, I've been watching a lot of Pit/Sonic/Kirby vids, so maybe it works better against those with less impressive recovery.

You can still edgeguard with the Cape, but you'll have to adjust your tactics a little.

Given the auto-grab and backwards-grab mechanics, simply standing on the edge and Caping won't work. Chances are the Cape won't hit them before the auto-grab activates, and even if it does they can simply DI into a reverse grab (depending on the recovery, of course. Stuff like Fox's and Ike's Side-B moves are still doomed to the Cape).

So, you can do the following:

-Edgehop to Cape
-Run or jump off the stage and Cape, then recover
-(If you get so lucky as to have the Cape connect before the auto-grab) Cape to smash attack or fair

Be wary; the Cape is the same as Melee but the animation is a little different; part of its hitbox is invisible now.

Might work for Mario's and Luigi's Up-B's because they have a fixed path of movement, and if it was reversed, it would be too far to grab on the ledge.
