I'm a pretty new player and I'm trying to experiment with different inputs for ledge actions. I started using c-stick back to drop off which is fine for me during practice but when playing someone in a match I sometimes found myself immediately (and accidentally) doing a back air off the ledge.

With more experimentation it seems like this is caused by very small c-stick movements after the initial input. Is that correct? So I should just use the main stick for ledge shenanigans right?

Its preference, really. You're probably just holding the c-stick too long, which makes the Bair come out when it shouldn't. Though I don't recommend using the c-stick to drop down, unless you use tap jump or claw style, because its hard to go from C-stick -> X/Y -> C-stick.

Pretty much so, rotating the c-stick after a direction is held also registers new aerial inputs. However the input threshhold for dropping off of a ledge is smaller than the threshhold for doing aerials, so you can prevent the aerial by simply moving the stick less.
