This may sound weird, but I like certain URL formats more than others. For instance:

(A) http://www.popularsite.com/forums/
(B) http://forums.popularsite.com/

I think URL B is so much cooler than URL A. I love subdomains for major sections of the site. Google does this a lot, and I think it is freakin' cool.

Anyone have this weird stuff going through their heads? Or am I a total freak? Which URL do you prefer? LOL

It really depends.
On the concept of subdomains and domains in general...
If you own the domain popularsite.com, then #1 would be much better, but if you don't, I would prefer #2 =)

but
I don't know why, but for forums, I definitely prefer the 2nd one. Maybe that's because so many forums use that way, and those that don't look kind of out of place =P

Yeah, I don't like URL B for every section of a site. That becomes annoying after a while, but when you enter a new "realm" (in this case, forums) where the focus of the site changes, URL B is just so much cooler.

I guess I prefer B, just for its ease of typing.

But in general, I prefer things to go from most general to most specific, from left to right. So I would name something like person.Doe.John, rather than John.Doe.person. I think you get what I'm saying.

It just makes sense for parts that generally need their own domain.

If this has anything to do with video.smashnexus.net, then I'm sorry, but that's a rather awkward domain name.

Video Smash Nexus? Smash Video Nexus sounds much better, but I suppose you're keeping it VSN to be consistent with the URL. Am I right?

Nah, the Nexus actually had nothing to do with this topic. But since you bring it up, I am going to have several Smash Nexus sites. The video search engine is just one "nexus". My full dream will be to have other Smash Nexuses ("Nexi"?) such as the Tournament Smash Nexus, etc. I never explained that before, so the name sounds funny to everyone. :p

I just think it makes sense for stuff like forums because in a forum, you step out of the main site and into a discussion area. I've never viewed forums as one tiny "part" of a site (unless they are tiny and suck to begin with).
