Some guy? Give me proper credit it was me! [idea: Ownasaurus]
But yeah... it was only after you brought up M2K and apex that I mentioned brawl briefly >_>

Anyhow steam is an interesting idea, but it is a slow, crappy piece of software and takes up a ton of resources. Don't get me wrong - I have a pretty intense gaming computer, but particularly for people with lower-end computers, it seems hard to justify installing and running steam just for voice chat.

Although this makes me wonder - what sort of steam games does the smash64 community play?

The channel got locked with a message to contact an administrator, so I contacted him for you and fixed the situation.

He says that AFK channels are not allowed on this server. So, please do not recreate the AFK channel and there should be no more problems.

You have to buy a game to add friends so still, you would have to spend money to join the voice chat amirite?
Correction: you do no need to buy anything to add friends.

Boom at one point owned no games on steam but still was able to use the n64 chat.

You just need to:

1. Log onto steam
2. go to the steam page for the n64 smash: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/ssb64
3. Click: Join this group (it should be listed as public: Anyone can join)
4. Join the chat in the friends page or on that page.
5. Chat with others.

It is quite simple and easy to find people. You can also friend people if you want from there (as in in the chat, right click on the name, and click add to friend list).

This isn't like xbox online, Steam is completely free outside of the actual games which range from free to 30 bucks (outside of combination deals which can go just a little bit more).

The only thing that needs to be downloaded is the steam client which is free and a much better alternative to giant ventrilo chats that basically require a good mic.

It is similar to AIM, but easier to use with 0 bugs and it actually closes when you close it (some AIM processes need to be closed on Task manager or they stay open).

Again, we got in trouble for having too many channels!

Please don't add any more unless there will be 2 people in each channel. So like, if there are 2 2v2s going on, there can be 4 channels, but if not, let's keep the number low.

Also, he made me an administrator to help take care of the galaxy 64 ventrilo chan.

dun listen to koro, there's hardly any smash on teh steam, cuz they're liek always playing l33t 4 death and stuff, so unless you have any steam games you'll be hardly playing anything. Sad face

I want to get left 4 death though xP

I actually have more steam games than my body has room for, since I used to play counter-strike in leagues and mess around with all those shooters. Been using steam since it was in beta exactly 7 years ago, when counter-strike 1.6 beta was its main focus and counter-terrorists still had the riot shield.

all those people are at reach within my MSN contact list. No need for STEAM.
