Sonic has been revealed early and there are two games of his upcoming... add that to the choice of song for his intro and there's a chance it's a reference to Tails and Knuckles being playable...

I don't think it's likely, but it could make sense of the odd choice to reveal him early (and no-one else) and choose that song.
