Unlockability of Characters Revealed Before Release

I think as of right now, Mega Man, Sonic, Toon Link, Luigi, and Rosalina are the biggest contenders to be unlockables. Marth is someone I'm not too sure about. Like Keeshu said, I also thought it was a little strange that Ike was the starter instead of Ike. But Marth was an unlockable in Melee and in Brawl, yet he's probably the most recognizable FE character. But the same could be said for Lucas being the starter over Ness. I wouldn't be surprised with either scenario regarding Marth.

The rest of the revealed roster doesn't look like "unlockable" material to me.

Food for thought.

Each character gets their own trailer that shows up in-game without having to unlock them. This has been confirmed in an interview.

So if each newcomer is getting their own trailer without unlocking them, then why have unlockable newcomers? Rosalina's trailer is available right at the beginning of the game, but Rosalina herself has to get unlocked. I can't be the only one thinking that the idea is weird.

I was thinking of the exact same thing. How could they possibly have secret newcomers if all the trailers are available from the start? Either we'll just know who every newcomer is and still have to unlock some (because unlocking only veterans is kind of boring), or maybe the trailers have a "spoiler filter" (so you can choose to see it whenever, but don't spoil the character). That's only if all the newcomers aren't revealed by the game's release though.

I'm guessing Luigi and Toon Link are staying as locked characters, but they're probably early unlocks this time round. But I can very much see the Fire Emblem dynamic reversed this time around with Marth being promoted to starter, and Ike (if he makes it) being an unlockable.

Ok then explain how megaman can be a starter then when in brawl both 3rd parties had to be unlocked

Besides sakurai might be revealing all starters and unlockable characters in random order. I mean very likely luigi and toon link have to still be unlocked

I think unlocking characters for single player and special modes is fine but for standard versus everyone should be available from the first second. Lock alts and colors if you need to.

I can see that happening only for one main reason, we are getting Smash on 3DS and Wii U. I can guess that Sakurai were concerned that we wouldn't be motivated enough to unlock the roster again on second game.
Possibly...but...

...he DID mention some sort of sync function between the Wii U version and the 3DS version, didn't he?

Also, if Ness is added, (he should be; he was in SSB64), he would most likely be unlockable.
