Unkillable - Video Game Idea

So basically I had an idea for a first person shooter game today called Unkillable. You play as a dude who got caught in a mad scientist's experiment to find immortality. During the experiment, he gets transported to a small, completely blank world. The world is mostly composed of water, land and ice. Nothing else. When he lands onto an island from space, he realises he can't feel pain and can't be killed. If he was hit by a grenade, he would fly into the air from the impact, but not take any damage or die.

He also discovers that he has the ability to spawn whatever he wants. A piece of metal? Absolutely. An engine? Sure. A pig? Of course. A car? No. See, to make more complicated items like a car or a plane and such, you have to build it from scratch with basic materials. With enough time and patience, you can build anything you want.

In this world, you can create nations, fight other immortal dudes, and even fly to the moon. The game would have realistic graphics and physics to differentiate it from games with similar-ish concepts like Scribblenauts and Minecraft. When in multiplayer, you can only be killed by getting physically attacked by another immortal person.

So what do you think of this concept? I don't have any where near enough expertise to make something like this, but perhaps someone with talent could take this idea and use it. Just make sure to credit me if you do.

I think you need to flesh out your story much more before you go on deciding how the game will be played. You say you want the game to be a first person shooter, but you also say that you want the character to be immortal. Why would somebody who is immortal want to carry around a gun and kill people? He can't possibly be defending himself, he's immortal after all. Furthermore, to kill somebody is very difficult. The title of a murderer is something you will have to carry with you for the rest of your life. If he's going to kill someone, he better have a purpose. Why is he killing people? What's his goal?

From a gameplay standpoint, being immortal also removes the challenge from the game. It's a first person shooter where enemies shoot you but you don't die. You can't lose. But then you want to tack on multi-player, but realizing that you can't die, you add in a clause that says that immortal people can only be killed by other immortals. So are they immortal or not? Why can immortal people be killed by other immortal people but not mortals?

Your idea is a mix between a first person shooter and Minecraft. One would have to ask, why are those two ideas tied together? Given your specifics, they don't seem to mix at all. If your main character can spawn items from thoughts, then why can't he spawn a car? Too complicated? Well spawn all the individual materials and put them together. It'll be just like Minecraft, except for the part where there's no mining, just crafting. Again, your idea for a super power removes the challenge from the game. You're in a completely blank world, but all the materials you'll ever need are instantly available at your fingertips. Whatever joy you can dig up from grinding your way to making a car is lessened. You don't even have to explore, the world is blank, so you can just park your car or your nation in any old patch of grass and it'll be fine.

And speaking of nations, why is he building nations in the first place? It's a very human thing to do to want to leave stuff to pass to the next generation. We have ideas, culture, genes, offspring, etc to share. Is passing the torch to the next generation not what humans aspire to do? I think it is. However, we're overlooking something: our character is less than human. He's been granted immortality and creation. Your character has the potential to be on a level of being on par with God. Of what use would visiting the moon or creating a nation on Earth be to God? For a character with as much potential as him, the number of things to do would be on a universal scale!

I'm getting carried away though, let me go back to the beginning. So your game is a cross between a first person shooter and Minecraft, right? Let's examine both of these things. See, the beauty of Minecraft is that it's simple, but complex. There's no story to it. You're dropped in a lonely patch of dirt and your only goal is to survive. However, the game gives us enough tools to do all sorts of things. We can make castles, explore caves, shape our environment, build monuments, etc. By giving our main character the power of creation, we remove half the experience. By granting our character immortality, we're shifting our purpose from surviving, to something else. What is that something else? You decide.

You wanted it to be a first person shooter, right? Okay. What's he fighting for? Actually, let's take a step back. Our mad scientist was doing some crazy experiments and ended up creating something beyond this world, correct? Was that his intention in the first place? What's his story, and how does his experiment gone wrong change things? Once the experiment happens, how does his conflict change? Maybe the scientist's activity gets picked up by some high ranking government organization, and they say, "Make us an army of immortal humans or else". Maybe your character gets tired after about his 10,000th wife and decides he just wants to die, or return to his old world. Who knows? My original point was that you should try to flesh these ideas out before thinking about how multi-player would be like. Immortality is a great subject to expand upon. Do some digging.

The scientist on the immortal guy's homeworld had him cloned in case of emergency. These feral clones can only be killed by each other or the progenitor immortal guy (Yeah, that's his name 'Immortal Guy'). They get accidently transported to the blank world too. They can sometimes appear at random and attack, which is why the player Immortal Guy has to have the equipment necessary to defend himself. The whole game doesn't need a particularly solid plot, as it's all just for fun as you play with this new world's physics by doing something dumb like jumping off a very tall building and surviving.

As for the multiplayer, the basic plot would be that some clones aren't feral, and these clones can participate in the same activities as Immortal Guy. The online mode would only allow for around 20 people to be on the same blank world, where you can make up your own minigames, battles, and more.

And yes, while the core mechanic would be first person, you can shift to third person as well. Immortal Guy just wants to build cities and towns because he feels like it, and so he can have friends. But building a person is also quite difficult, as you need bone marrow, tissue, blood, organs etc.

As I said, it's a basic idea that could be expanded upon.

Have the weapons be poisoned with a sleep agent; the more you shoot, the more sleep poison is injected before the enemy passes out. That way the characters are all portrayed as not kill-able, but able to realistically use weapons (guns, bows, so forth). As for a motive, why not have it like Infamous; guy gets powers and its a path to enlightenment (or not). Have him be singled out as the God (or devil) of the universe and like...have his blood transferred to others, so they two get a temporary immortality as your player would. Just babbling, but the idea you present is pretty interesting.

In Epic Yarn, Kirby can't die and the game is REALLY boring because of it

The game wouldn't be linear like Kirby's Epic Yarn. And the characters can die only if they're killed by other players or feral clones. The main fun of the game would be just playing around, building stuff, and fighting.

You can even start entire wars if you want to. Two players can build armies and have epic battles and stuff.

This sounds very ambitious, but also from how you word it, you want parts from every "good" franchise and squeeze it all together into your own creation. Interesting, but is it feasible? What I mean is, why have a range of only mediocre ideas and parts when you can narrow in and polish only certain aspects?
Would this be a first, second, or third person view? Such important questions I'm asking haha.

I don't have anywhere near the level of skill to make a game like this. It was just an idea. :urg:
