Does anyone else feel like this game is unfinished like were missing a intro for the game and characters have brawl sound clips and you can't even look at the trailers in game.

I'm not sure I'm following on how that shows it's unfinished. If it's not there to begin with then maybe it was never meant to be.

Honestly, I just think of this game as a training grounds for the Wii U version. The fact that it's a bit feature-light doesn't really phase me.

Though I doubt sound clips will change.

I think that the reason there's no intro and all that is because of the limited storage size of the 3DS. We always knew that the 3DS version would have less features than the Wii U version, so it's no real surprise that the game seems "unfinished". For me at least, I'll just be playing the 3DS version until the Wii U version comes out and then only playing the 3DS version with friends.

Brawl and Melee were supposedly rushed to meet a deadline. Wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happened here. After all, Smash 4 is expected to be the "saviour of the Wii U", it'd only make sense if Sakurai had to force its completion by Christmas when he (hypothetically) wanted more time.

That said, I also wouldn't be surprised if the Wii U version had an intro.

The fact that brawl had more content does not mean this is an unfinished game by any means. Sure it is missing some things brawl had, but what this game has is a lot of content, yet different content. It's still a great game, and is an intro or trailer really that needed?

Same here. I'm not expecting the 3DS to be equal to the Wii U in terms of content (and would hope not since that would mean the Wii U version is barren) so this doesn't bother as much. However, if all of these complaints about it being "barren" are still around for the Wii U, then I'll get annoyed.

Really, it's to help fill my Smash addiction until the 'definitive' version is released.

It's the fact they cut corners.

- Tons of characters re-using old sound clips
- Lack of any videos (Sakurai confirmed the trailers would be in the game, though didn't specify a version)
- Many series only getting retro stages
- No CPP support, yet it works on New 3DS (and this shouldn't be a RAM issue like the other stuff)
- etc

There's just a lot of porting.

There's also a lot of weird decisions made with how things work/were changed in menus/modes and the game seems like they actually wanted to build it for the New 3DS, but held it back so that everyone could play instead of alienating people and lessening the sales (since not everyone would just upgrade to a New 3DS, especially when they want people to buy a 3DS in general for the game too).

They also gave a solid deadline and year and wanted to get it done by then. Notice we still don't have a date for SSBU? They probably had to rush some stuff at the end. Obviously some stuff is simply because the 3DS can't handle a game of this scale, but not everything can be written off with that excuse.

I don't think this game is unfinished it has alot of content.
Yeah this.
I don't think that's what the topic was getting at.

It's how the content is presented and the things that ARE missing and the fact they reused a lot of stuff.

Most of those aren't signs of an unfinished product. It just means that the game didn't have some of the things you wanted in it. What we got is clearly packed with content and well polished.

I don't think it's unfinished as much as it's the hardware significantly held them back in a few areas.

- 30fps AT's
- 20fps bottom screen
- No in-game browser/Miiverse outside of N3DS's
- No CPP support
- Slow loading
- Game resets the system when you exit it
- No intro video

These are the signs of a game that are held together by tiny bits of string and spit more than being unfinished. I'm VERY curious to see what the Wii U version has. I think that it has to feel more than just 'more Smash Bros.' like this kinda does.

For that matter, I'm also curious to see what N3DS brings to the table for this game beyond C-Stick/Browser/Miiverse support.

Wait I did not know about slow loading and how the game resets your system when you exit it. Can this kind of stuff be patched?

Apparently, these things are going to be fixed when playing on the New 3DS. Definitely makes me think that this game was a part of why the New 3DS was developed.

Are you kidding me? What the hell. That's actually bull****. Ive gone from being hyped again back to my salty state. I own a 3DS XL which is already a different 3DS version, why the **** should I buy another one. Ive owned a Ds lite and a Dsi, this is just stupid.

I don't have 250 dollars to spare.

My theory is that they just stripped out unneeded stuff like videos to save the 3DS some memory. Game's already very demanding on the 3DS' cpu. And that the 3DS version is basically just miniature Smash on the go, whereas the Wii U version will be the full experience we all know; think along the lines of Sonic Adventure 2 with its Dreamcast controller/GBA connectivity in the Chao Garden.

We already know the Wii U will have exclusive stages and more challenging content, so it's obvious that'll be the "full" game.

Well...it's less than 2gb, and on the cart it's 2.1gb (apparently). So since it's a 4gb cart, they obviously had some room to maneuever with.

I feel like, just by looking at the 3DS version, characters/stages/features/modes were cut because the system simply couldn't handle it, even though they might be in there somewhere. I mean, those Ice Climbers/Mewtwo Trophies are clearly new, Smash-type renders.

Now I do think this game (and Pokemon X/Y and the CPP) were the reason why the N3DS exists.

Screw the new 3DS. Why should I have to pay like 250 dollars just to play smash bros nicely?

The current 3DS already plays it at constant 60 FPS, but if the new 3DS were originally there, Smash 4 probably would've had more rstuff on the 3DS version. The new one is basically just something they wanted to do probably after getting fed up with the original 3DS' limitations.

Because the new 3ds is more powerful and is more capable running the game more smoothly. The current 3ds would fall apart trying to do that. Plus it's still perfectly playable with the old 3ds so it's not like you are being forced to get a New 3ds to play the game.

I do think they were a bit lazy with re-using sound files, not using an intro, clones like Ganondorf, etc… but I reckon a lot of this will be sorted with the Wii U version. I'm over Ridley and Mewtwo not being in the game now and just want it! I agree with a lot of people though, just gonna play 3DS till Wii U version comes out

Well the Wii U version is obviously going to be the version used for Tournaments and such.

Sakurai talked about having the same character experience across both, but it doesn't mean that the Wii U version is going to play the same way. At E3, I thought they played differently, but I chalked that up to being different builds.

Calm the hell down.
The "slow loading" is literally like 1-3 seconds. Brawl had like 10 second waits at times. And resetting the 3DS when you exit the game is whatever. Not being able to access Miiverse or the Internet Browser is pretty much null except that means no posting screens to Miiverse. A bit of a bummer but whatever. the camera isn't all that great in this version anyway.
It runs nice.

I guess all the common sense points have been beaten to death but yeah...

Wii-U version will prolly have the fancy unnecessary stuff + polish.

No intro sounds weird to me though, that would make a game with this much hype feel... less presentable to me yeah, even if it doesn't affect the direct gameplay. You kind of get your last wave of giant hype starting the game up for the first time and getting a shiny intro with a catchy song.

To be honest I think the only reason it lacks an intro is it would be a waste of cartridge and download space.

2 points. First, from what I saw the livestream loading times were better than Brawl (but that could be my 7 year old Wii on my 5 year old disc). Second, you can call it the smaller version, the portable version, maybe even the casual version, but don't call it the lesser version. The 3DS game WILL sell more than the WiiU game. That is a fact, and that fact will never change. If this game doubles WiiU sales, they're still going to a smaller market.

While I agree that there are a few things that were caused by 3DS limitations, such as lower FPS assist trophies and whatnot. I think certain things such as the lack of an intro and reused sound clips are a result of time constraints. Replacing a character's sound file with a new one does not take more space, nor would it be cause by 3DS restrictions. I am pretty sure there is enough room on the cartridge to add even a simple intro to the game. (A game card is ~4 gigs I think, the game takes up 2.1) Cartridge size doesn't really restrain much anyway, the game had a day 1 patch anyway, so if need be they could have just required certain content to be downloaded. Also, I personally thinks it's a bit unfair to compare the games saying one is superior (I mean duh, obviously the Wii-U one will look better and have more stages) just look at them as two different games.

This is not the first time you've responded to me as if I claimed no one should enjoy the 3DS version and it might as well not even exist. For your sake, I hope Smash 3DS is the most enjoyable experience you've ever had with Smash game and that you legitimately see no desire for the Wii U version.

That said, I along with many others, will play this game for a few months until we can move on to playing the game we actually want to play. I'm sorry you don't have a Wii U. I'm sorry the 3DS version is nothing more than a warm-up for me to get used to the mechanics and new characters. I hope you fully enjoy it as a full game. Note that I am buying the 3DS version. I'm not anti-3DS. But even after playing the demo for a few hours, I can't pretend I'm particularly excited about handheld Smash.

Sales will do nothing to reflect game quality, because people will do as you have done and convince themselves that the 3DS Smash experience overshadows the Wii U, just so they don't have to think about making a big purchase. More people have a 3DS than Wii U. Most people would rather spend $40 than $350. Smash 3DS will sell more. Big deal. I own both, and can say without hesitation the Wii U is where I will rather play, but a not insignificant number of people will just go towards the more accessible option. Meanwhile, a dozen of my friends are about to become Wii U owners in the next few months, because most people are of the opinion that Smash is best played on a console. Please don't act like it's insane not to take the 3DS version terribly seriously.

But seriously, I can't stress this enough, I hope you enjoy the 3DS version tremendously.

I doesn't seem like the game is unfinished, but the game does look a little rushed. The CSS and SSS just look so basic and the game lacks any kind of presentation, the menus just look all thrown together (why is solo under games & more?). So yes some parts of the game seem like they were rushed.
