you can press down to cancel your umbrella obviously, but you can reopen it by pressing up afterward. This is probably old but still, it's useful to know. If you rapidly open/close it the little shiny animation keeps going so i think you can hit people with it more effectively like that...

This was known in Melee, and was more effective too due to fastfalling characters' gravities.
