For a while I've been having this crazy dream of creating a Super Smash Bros fangame, but one so good that it wouldn't feel like anything less then an official (however handheld) game. I am looking for people willing to assist me in this venture, at this point of time I am looking for artists since programmers won't be needed until a decent amount of the sprite-work has been done. I have NOT decided on a sprite style as of yet, or a roster for that matter, since I would like this to be decided by my team. I am capable of making background tiles and am currently studying the art of background scenery, so I will use these to assist in the game since I don't want to just be like "No, not what I want."

Any artist who participates, depending on which area they will work in, will decide a character or stage to be in the game, even if they cannot make it themselves someone else on the team will (or at least, try.) Character movesets, however, will be discussed by the team as a whole. Aiming for no clones.

There are some characters I will not permit to not be included, and we will have at least three third-party franchises (Yes, one will be Sonic.)

Anybody who wants to join me, please post here with a sample of your work and what area of the game you would like to work in.

OH! Before I forget. Later on I will be looking for people to compose background music based on the music used in games, so anybody interested in that please get ready for a few stages to get sprited.

I appreciate those of you who took the time to read this and appreciate those of you who want to help out even more.

It's called Super Nuke Bros. Melee, and it will have Ness in it. With working PK Thunder.

http://taronuke.deviantart.com/art/SNBMBTT-Antonio-59131704

Arrow keys move, A and W attack.

Final Game will have shielding.

Updates to full game not in this version: W became A, A became S.
Antonio has been made faster, his up special goes higher and has more horizontal control.
So yeah, this demo is dated. But enjoy it, bi-atches.

Heh. But a game with all of Smashboards support will have its advantages too. I'll see what I can do for sprites. No promises though.

If you can't do characters, or don't have the time to, items and stage tiles will be fine :3

I'd almost consider just using sprites from other games and get the programming well underway first. Most serious artists (myself included) won't want to put down hours upon hours of time spriting just to see the game never come together.

If you can hunt down programmers and put together a brief demo (with like two characters, no special moves, one "Final Destination" stage, no settings) to show that the project is serious, you'd probably get a ton of people on board. You can even use 8-bit sprites. Just show that you're serious.

I'd probably be up for doing character and background artwork, along with voice acting and moveset balance. I just want to see something more than "I have a dream".

Right then *Off to the Programmer-Brick Road*

I have been convinced that C++ is the way to go.

I'd help ya any way I can, I used to do a little spriting but I don't know. But if you need me to find sprites like Fanewgie said I could do that....If you need anything ask me and I'll see what I can do...

Since it has Ness in it, it's automatic WIN.

I could help with spriting, by the way.

No offense, but you need to show a lot more proof that this project is actually going to get anywhere.

A game is an ambitiuous project, and you aren't even the 10,000th person to claim that he can do it... as long as he has everyone else do the work for him while he reassures everyone with supposed promises that he knows how to do one very simple part of a massive design.

Some backgrounds? Some of your work? Your ideas? Not just a list of characters.

I didn't post a list Mr. Kirby Avatar, the list will be decided by the team. My ambition is simply to be a part of a grand project. Sure I have a million ideas I'd like to impliment, but it won't happen if it's voted against.

I believe I said I was studying backgrounds, but by the time I get the programmed demo up, I should have a firm grasp on a background style.

I have never released my tile sets to the public, I do have some character sprites that are mediocre, however they are edits, which is not what I want. If you want a tile example, request any set of things from the Mario universe (tile was, meaning question blocks, floor tiles, etc.)

I didn't say you actually posted a list. I meant that, if you're going to post some of the idea you have to garner interest from a competent staff, then post something interesting. Sorry about the poor wording.

I don't really care what you post. It doesn't even have to be related to Smash. Just post some of the things you've done in general to show your competence and your dedication to your own project. Lke a resume, sort of.

You can't just say "Oh, I'm studying and have ideas", you have to prove that you know what you're talking about and show that your ideas have merit.

How fleshed out are you planning on making this? I mean is it just going to be a remake of Super Smash Flash or are you going to try to make a 2D Brawl? I mean you last post makes it sound like you know what you're talking about, but I still need a little more convincing before I put any stock in it.

Alright well.. here are some of those character edits I was talking about (there's only one sheet, the rest were simply made to see how I was improving over time.)

Except this one, which I did because I was bored.

But like I said earlier, I'm not too great with characters. I don't have any tiles ready for show yet.. I'll have some tomorrow.

Edit: Magna - I'm hoping it will be like a 2D Brawl. I have played Smash Flash, and I hope to overcome the glitches that game has, though this is mostly reliant on any programmers I find.

You also might wanna check out Super Smash Flash

http://forums.mcleodgaming.com/viewtopic.php?t=154

Also Cless, I've heard a lot about Mugen, but don't know much about it. Wikipedia didn't really clear things up regarding how to get it and where to get it from. I think I saw an XBOX version that someone made too.
Does anyone know of the same people who did Super Smash Flash are making a Brawl one?

I'm surprised that no-one hasn't attempted a recreation of Smash in the HL2 engine.

Disappointing.

I'm going to school to become a programmer this fall. When you need programmers look me up. I prefer messages on these forums if that is okay. I'll be at Shawnee State University in the Game and Simulation Programming classes, I'm also double majoring in Computer Engineering so we can design a console while we're at it.

I consider myself a sprite artist, but retired. Here's some work of mine:

Makar: (scratch)

Characters: (scratch)

I'm not too excited about this thing yet, though. I'll work on sprites for the demo, and if I like the demo I guess I'll help you out.

Well, I'm gonna use some ripped sprites for the demo, just so when I find someone who can use C++, we can get the animations for the demo up quick.

Bluebomber: I wanted a way to contact him previously. I'll wait until I have something to show though, his stuff is just too awsome. Plus, doesn't he currently do Card Fighters?

Alright. There are easily a dozen sprite sheets for various characters available, I have a few myself. These were all taken from the interbutt, and I claim no ownership. But it says that they canb e used if they (the author) are crdited. This could really ease up the load, and let us get past remaking Smash and into making it our own. (Also, the sheets are stored on the schools comp, so I can't load them now. Look back around 10 pm EST.

Hey, I know you said your not looking for Programmers yet, but I've got a few years experience in C++, and about 2 to 3 years for Java. So if you'd like my assistance, let me know. I'm also an amateur artist.
