Ultimate Christmas Report

SSBU just had its first Christmas. The game has officially had the chance to go mainstream with people besides the huge fans and has now made it into the hands of general audiences, some of whom are children who are getting their first Smash experience. I want to know how the sales are doing, if the game is still played months later, if any element is causing problems, and maybe even refer back to this thread to see how the second Christmas (the important one) sees the game doing or if it's become irrelevant by then. SSBB and Mario Kart Wii both had an excellent 2009. NSMBUD will still be doing amazing in 2020. How about SSBU? Will people still be playing it?

I also want to know if anyone's had this scenario happen: when playing SSBU during the holidays, a random kid wanders in the room who may or may not even be interested in playing. An adult tells you to let him play anyway or they're taking away the Switch. You say "Okay, I just have to get this done" because King K Rool has just approached you. You hastily try to explain the controls to the kid but he just walks off the stage and you lose the opportunity to unlock KKR through a simple match for good.

Just let me know, okay?

It's the fastest selling Nintendo console game in Europe already and it sold 5 million units worldwide BEFORE Christmas. Sales are fine.

Though, if you want to know how the game is doing months later, it's extremely early to open a thread about it.

Is this happened to you? Because this is an unreasonably specific scenario to ask people around.

5 million is already at the levels of how much smash 64 and 4 Wii U sold. Many games would dream to even get a million, let alone 5 million. And this is just done on one console in less than a month.

Per a quote from Nintendo, it's both the fastest-selling switch game and the fastest selling smash bros game, at least in its first 11 days. I think it's fine.

Still on character unlocks, huh?

Oh and btw, I know you know about this from other topics where it's been brought up, but you can rematch him later; just go to the challenger's approach door once it shows up and beat him in a one stock match that is identical to the match you lost initially. You don't "lose the opportunity to unlock KKR through a simple match for good."

Okay, 5 million in the first month. Actually doing good so far.

It's not that much updated from Smash 4, but so many people skipped out on the Wii U, so it's excusable.

Well done, SSBU!

Not that much updated? It has 16 more fighters and 48 more stages before DLC. Not to mention multiple bosses, a full-fledged Adventure Mode with Spirits and a ton of quality of life changes for both casuals and tournament players.

What's your definition of "much updated"?

These people are ridiculous. New characters, stages, engine, textures, assist trophies, pokemon, animations, adventure mode, character renders, UI, all returning veterans, music, and these people are STILL implying this isn’t a new game. Didn’t this mindset die after the August direct? Its pathetic if im being honest.

Gameplay wise, it just doesn't seem that updated compared to Smash 4, the previous one.

Characters and stages though, definitely. Especially if you're most people and going from Brawl to Ultimate.

"It doesn't seem"? That's a very wishy-washy answer, consider that pretty much all competitive players accepted that this game is fplays very differently than the previous ones. Plus, all Smash games keep the core gameplay same, there doesn't have to be a huge update.

Directional airdodging, dash canceling, attack cancel, reduced hitstun and lag, parrying, faster game speed, overhauled buffer system, and more.

Please, don’t comment on something if you don’t know what you are talking about. All it does is spread misinformation and newcomers will believe it.
