Hey all! I just found out that I will be attending UBuffalo (SUNY) in upcoming fall 2014. I'm looking to start/join a strong smash scene at the college. Anyone in the college play Melee or want to? PM me or post in this thread. I'm just looking to find people to play with during my time there, so let me know! Thanks!

Totally interested as well. I go to UB now and haven't had any luck finding people to play with on campus.

Yeah man, everyones welcome students or not. I'm an alumni personally and I still show up and play everyweek haha. Theres usually at least one p:m tv but melee is the most played game at the moment. I'd say we usually have one brawl, one p:m, and 3 or 4 melee setups

UB Smash club is in the student union every Wednesday at 8pm. We're getting bigger and our melee set-ups increased to about 6 every week. Usually 1-2 ProjectM/VanillaB set-ups, and 1 marvel set-up.

There's a group downtown (Southern Buffalo) that plays primarily project M. UB north, where smash club is, primarily plays Melee. Either 2 Melee or 1M/1PM would work, because the former option is a great enabler to expanding the already existing Melee scene, while the later can create incentive for south Buffalo to come to us to potentially consolidate the two groups together. We have about 30 people every week at smash club. The PM group downtown has about 10 from what I've researched.

I'm definitely bringing melee and P:M, i just dont know if im bringing a second melee as well.
and would I be leaving them in the club?

I definitely want Melee in my room too, so well see what the arrangments would be. I'd be willing to leave the tvs there, and probably at least one system/game at a time.
I'd love to bring the PM group in!

Do you guys in the club have a ranking system/weeklies? I'm used to how Stony Brook University runs things and they have a ladder with challenge rules that motivates people and they host biweeklies for $1 entry. it works great for them and has grown their scene to crazy levels... Something to think about.

We don't have a ladder, but we have a pretty good idea of the rankings within smash club. We have 2-3 tournaments for $5 per semester. It sounds like a good idea to host biweeklies for $1 though.

It's not necessary to leave the TV's there, but I've left my DBZ tv in one of the offices for a couple years, eventually they ran out of room because they already have so many tv's, so I had decided to take it back. I pretty much bring a TV manually from my house if one is needed, I personally own 3 CRT's.

As per bringing the PM group in, I messaged Dura Mater, but he did not reply. Perhaps he's just busy, and they're open to playing melee. I'm definitely open to playing PM more.

From experience at Stony Brook University, a top ten ladder with a challenge system really increases the drive to improve and raises the overall standard of play and competition. Like I said, I've only seen good things happen from it at Stony Brook.
And the $1 biweeklies are amazing, they bring in everyone and they create this healthy competitive atmosphere where pride is on the line more than money. They do melee and P:M tournaments at their biweeklies, and they alternate one being $1 and one being $5 each week, but that's mainly just to raise the hype or draw in Long Island top players. I'd be happy to help run, or run myself, a ladder system and a $1 biweekly series.

really looking forward to coming to BU!

Also, do you play Mario or is that just your name? Because Mario is definitely my favorite character to play.
