There are two main problems with Brawls online as most of you know. These two things, (or lack of) realy bring down on the online experience for a game that deserves the best, when it comes to online. These fixes may be a bit low quality, but they are fixes.

The first problem is that there is no voice chat to speak of. Hopefuly they will add it but it doesn't look to good. Smash is realy a game where you want voice chat so you can properly organize your matches, and, the kicker, trash talking. How can you play a match with friends without trash talking? Okay you can, but I think most of you'd prefer to trash talk.

The second problem is lack of names, ranking, and the fact that the match is only semi-custimizable. This means that alot of the matches will be something like: 5 min match on Norfair with items on. I'm not saying that I hate items or Norfair but for some people (like me) it will probably get old. PLEASE RESPOND I've had like 247 views and 8 responses.

Fix for voice chat
Requires:
Nintendo DS
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Metroid Prime Hunters
Nintendo DS Headset

Opponents friend code for Metroid/Pokemon
So by now it's obvious that my point is that you would use the DS to chat while you played the match. This would only work for friend matches, but hey, it's better than nothing. Also, I'm not sure of this but I think that having Metroid would be preferable over Pokemon because Only Metroid can have a 4-way chat. Like I said I'm not sure but I think thats the case. Cool, now we can properly organize a match...............................and then trash talk.

Fix for "with anyone" online play
Requires:
LOTS of friend codes

Now if this problem is being fixed on wifi-wars please inform me because I'm not sure of what they are planning to do with Brawl. Now this would take alot of time to do and would probably have to be over time. At first this will sound ridiculous, but hear me out. If enough Brawlers shared their Friend Codes until you could search for a friends match and find one easily. To do this it would probably have to work like this: A group of maybe ten or fifteen smashers post their friend codes, and all become registered friends. It would have to work like this because doing it one at a time would take to long and it would prevent people from registering a friend code, only to have the other person not do so (refering to threads where theres a list of about eighty friend codes). Now, there are a couple problems with this idea. The first is that there may only be room to have a small amount of registered friends. The second is that if there were a multitude of rooms created online, you might not be able to find an actual specific friend you want to play with. The good is that with this you could see the options of the matches your joining, and kinda communicate with eachother.

So, those are my ideas. Please tell me what you think of them and if they are practical or not. Hope this might help:)This is my first good thread so don't be too harsh.

I don't know... I don't feel like being called (insert bad language here) while playing Smash Bros...

Seems to happen to me whenever I play Halo.

Well voice chat would only work for matches agaianst friends, so if you have good friends then you can just converse with them over the match.

yeah... kind of distracting... trying to talk and smash at the same time?

"So, how's Halo 3?"

(grabs Smash Ball)

"Oh, it's cool."

(Runs for life.)

"That reminds me, do you remember that one dude who go a prefect game, 3 on 1?"

(blows up buddy with Bomb-Omb)

yeah... see my point?

The DS voice chat sounds like a good idea but would it work with the DS closed? (Standby mode)
Playing with the DS open would be akward.

The only main problem with the DS idea is this.

What if we don't want to waste our money on a Metroid Game that we're never going to play?
Of course, I've always been an avid hater of the Prime series, so maybe I'm just weird and I'm the only kid in town that doesn't own Hunters.

You can talk and smash at the same time, and to backup my point, I also made a Dialogue:

Player 1 (Kirby): So did you see the FIFA World Cup?

Player 2 (Snake): Man, that was 1 year and a half ago.

*Player 2 uses the Tracking missile*

Player 1: You haven't anwsered my question.

*air dogdes the missiles*

Player 2: You are an idiot.

*Grabs a Smash ball*

Player 1: hey watch out, my mom is coming.

at the same time
*Snake perform the FS and noisi bombs fall over the place*

Player 2: What did you say about my mom!?

*KO kirby*

Player 1: No! What I say was...

*Falls off the halo* and mom arrives.

Player 2: Shut up F****** idiot!

Mom: WHAT WAS THAT! (Outloud enought to make Player 2 hear)

Both Player 1 and 2: Oh S***

see? no problem at talking while you play

Your DS idea is ridiculously impractical and I shouldn't really have to explain why. If you want voice chat so bad do it through your PC. Just get a headset and use Ventrilo or something.

The major problem I see with wifi is that the more experienced players will get matched with people picking up the game for the first time. I don't want to play with items, I don't want to play timed matches, and I certainly don't want to be able to win using only one hand.

I see this website becoming the hud for informal guilds, the only way of having a decent competitive environment for the more active / skilled players. I wish Sakurai would take a hint from Halo's popularity.

This game is going to be great. It's just that with only a tournament ladder and a voice chat system, this game could become so much better.

Edit: The DS system is certainly creative, but Laptops + Ventrilo = ftfw!

Yeah, and? Were you planning on making all your opponents buy Metroid/Pokemon, adding their friend codes on the DS too and making them all find your game there at the same time every time? Good luck with that. If your PC isn't near your Wii then just get a wireless headset.

the ds has a headset(10 bucks), and I can't help it if your friends don't have metroid. But, I never thought of the pc idea, geuss that would work too. and i said the voice chat would only work with friends. I can tell you didn't read the whole post

I honestly don't see too many problems with online, really any little problems can just be solved through the boards. I mean you could fight anyone good on the boards, just collect their friend codes. most mistakes will be fixed by the players, If your friend know someone good you don't then you can share codes and get to know more people near yur smash level, possibly lists could be made with ranking and then you just send them to everyone else. They gave us rules you just have to get creative and figure out ways to play while abiding nintendo's "don't talk to strangers" policy. If you can think of other creative ways let us know.

Why cant we all just use online voice chat programs like skype, ventrillo, or teamspeak? Will the connection weaken if you chat with your computer mic while playing?

as for customization, I dunno. I'm sure it won't be a problem among friends, only with "vs the world" mode

Yeah, Ventrilo is a free online mic program I used a ton in World of Warcraft a while back. Go to www.ventrilo.com and get it, find someone with a server on it, and bam. Good to go. Or heck, how about a few forum members get a server together? That could benefit a lot of us, and we'd be able to hit each other up via vent for matches as well.

Sadly, using Xbox Live's chat option is about as good as you are gonna find, and will actually work quite well if you and your friend both happen to have a 360 with a live account. Ventrilo would work just as well but a lot of people like me probably have their computer not directly next to their TV area so w/o a wireless headset (doubt my friends or I would want to waste money on one) this becomes a problem.

The DS thing would work I suppose, but I'm really not into handhelds anymore...I don't see the big hype about them. Good for roadtrips as a kid I guess...

World of Warcraft.... good times.....:)
Oh, and actually hosting a ventrilo server cost a few bucks a week, more for a server large enough to host all the competitive smash gamers' matches.

No offense, but most people don't usually get scared if their moms hear the 'F' word, so this was a pretty useless post (like mine) Unless you're like 10. Then I guess it's okay.

Anyway, I've found an alternative!!!!!!11111!juan!!one!!11
You see, The probable reason for no chat is probably because people would swear and so we convince Sakurai to get Kirby to cuss once in the game, therefore the ratings would be teen for blah blah blah Adult Language and then there should be no logical reason not to have voice chat.. unless voice chat would make it lag? bwahaa!

Or we can all just play next to our computers and use TeamSpeak or MSN voice chat or some other sorta voice chatting thingamajiggy

I am not partial to the voice chat idea. The wee brats who play Halo are quite terrible, and I see smash players potentially worse if given the chance for voice chat.

For a ranking system, I don't know. Sometimes they're fun, but when hacking/ARing and DCing get involved, it can ruin the online experience as a whole.

Pssh. My mum get's annoyed when my older brother says the F word, not because he's annoyed at Counter Strike, but because we have siblings.

I'm sure alot of people have siblings.

Anyways, I really do like your idea of DS voice chat :D.

I shall use it to communicate to my brothers when I vs them. (I don't live with them.)

Thanks for your creativity. ^^'

Personally, I would love to have a headset to talk with people while I was playing Smash. However, I think that they would limit it to being able to only talk with your friends. I'm still fine with that, though. It would be fun.

Ok trash talking is what the taunts are for... But you DONT NEED HEADETS FOR GAMES LIKE SMASH!!! You can't be like "Okay Snake hide in your box then jump out and kick him". You can't really use startegy. But they have it for Halo for example because you and your team have to cooperate to take the flag or whatever. Headsets aren't nescessary for Smash. End Rant.
