See, I have a question. Why in Mario's Character bio does it refer to the Koopa's as the turtle tribe for the first and only time?

It may have been a funny translation from the Japanese version of the game, or something along those lines. I THINK that for the original NES Mario Bros. game, "Bowser" was referred to as "Koopa", thus his underlings (normally called "koopas") would be "turtles."

However, I get the feeling that my above description is hopelessly wrong, seeing as how I'm making a huge jump from what I know of the original Mario game. Perhaps in Mario's character biography in SSB, the developers were just trying to be funny by referring to Bowser and his Koopas as "turtles"...that could be it too.

well, they DO look like turtles... regardless if it was a translation error or a joke, it gets its point across- whether turtle or koopa, mario pwns them all the same! (WWF please dont hurt me)
