Turnouts for G2-

So, someone mentioned in the official Genesis 2 thread that the turnouts are kind of sad compared to the last Genesis back in '09 (of course, that's just the way it's going to be, the official "this game just came out" hype is now gone, and so the turnouts will be lower).

Well, we as a community can fix that.

I propose that those of us who only entered Brawl, or only entered Melee, enter the other game as well. Yes, that is $25 that could be spent on something you may find more enjoyable, but I believe that it would definitely be worth it to the community itself that we boost those numbers.

So I'll start things off- if a Melee-only entrant agrees to enter Brawl, I will enter Melee. I'm not going to actually play as I'm completely trash balls awful garbage not very good at Melee, but my money will be in the pot to help support the top players who have put SO much work and effort into the game. I believe they deserve it.

I encourage others to do the same ;)

While it's a cool idea, I'm not sure how fun a strictly Melee player would have playing Brawl, and vice-versa. I know I've only got two full days at this, and I really wanna maximize my time and meet/play as many people as possible.

I think there will be a decent amount of people registering at the hotel. I might consider this tho. I love trolling with walk around Weegee in Brawl.

Basically what I'm saying is I'm willing to donate to the Melee players pot. I don't care to play, as I'm there for Brawl!

And ya there will definitely be more registration at the hotel, so the tourney isn't a lost cause, but if someone else is willing to do it, that's one extra entrant for each game, which imo would be awesome. =P

Of course, there's such a thing as money johns, which is the only legit form of johns known to man.

@Strong Bad- I like your avi my man.

Time for work! <.<

I actually might do this just for the hell of it. I'd probably actually play Brawl though. I mean...I don't play it competitively, but I might be able to pick MK up and beat somebody anyway. xD

Yeah, how about 1 person offers for 1 game then gets matched. I'll see how money goes, and maybe offer to enter melee... I would actually play, too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this just inflating the turnout? Kind of similar to that of MLG when people were willing to buy passes even if they weren't going. I think it's okay if people were to actually play, but if everybody does what you would do (not play), then why can't you just call it a donation for the respective game's pot rather than boosting up the "turnout"

The action is essentially just that, but it's meant to mean more.

There is SO much hate between the Brawl community and the Melee community... WHY? We all play Smash, the best ****ing multiplayer gaming series to ever grace consoles... so why can't we just choose the game we love, support the others, and make our community that much better?

I respect the Melee community, the players, the game (why the hell do you think I picked up Brawl?) and I want to show it. I'm not going to pick up Melee, there's no point for me because I love Brawl, and am good at it, but I am more than willing to actually make a difference to the Melee community by donating my money to the people who win.

Mango, Armada, M2K, Axe, Hbox, I want them to travel. I want them to inspire thousands of people within the Melee community. How can I, a Brawl player help? By entering Melee singles!

I know for a fact there are plenty of people out there who play either game who'd be more than willing to do the same thing, so I figured I'd make a thread about it :)

Mmm I probably won't do it, switching between Brawl and Melee is hard. And I'll likely play Melee anyway all day with MMs and stuff. >_<

the pools are going to be inverted though, such as if you enter both events, in melee you'll be pool 1, in brawl pool round 30

I tried to do that at Genesis 1.
I was like "oh well, whatever, it will be fun to play Brawl ! Let's try it !"

An then, after playing my double pools games, I was litteraly disgusted by the game, and ask to be taken out of the entrants list for singles. I really had the feeling of wasted money, as I've got absolutely NO fun.

Ever since, I never entered a Brawl event again. I've been hosting Brawl tournaments, and helping the Brawl scene as a whole... but I'll never try to play it competitively again.

So yeah, in theory, it work, and it's actually a nice idea. But those who decide to do both gotta actually like the game, because doing it "for fun" while you don't really like the game is bound to be a failure.

I'm not telling anyone to actually play the game that they don't enjoy as much as the other.

I'm not playing Melee, just supporting the players.

I'm also not asking anyone to play Brawl, just support it.

why not go to a homeless shelter and give them all 20 bucks to enter singles? the turnout numbers are arbitrary as ****. a motivated community that is dedicated to their game is what really speaks for the health of the scene. smaller turnouts at nationals are just a sign of the times, the games are getting older and the new wave of players from 08 (for brawl) and 09 (when everyone realized brawl sucks) wasn't really meant to last forever.

Well, you see, I don't think donating money towards the pot directly benefits the game much. If anything, people might be encouraged more to play (at this tournament) since there's more money to potentially win but I think that's it. If the idea is that maybe the person doing this might like the game and play it more in the future, then it's okay. But if they're like you, who are reluctant to play and would rather just donate, then it's counteractive to the premise of this idea.

So if you're thinking about donating, I think you're better off telling one of the TO's that you're gonna donate X amount of money towards the Melee/Brawl pot rather than buying a spot on the Melee/Brawl singles/doubles tournament.

It's not about the turnout, it's about the pot. With numbers of entrants/entry fee it's easy to calculate what the pot is at.

If it's not worth it for Armada to travel here, what's to bring him back? Pride and love for the game only go so far. Without money to travel from one part of the world to another, it's not happening.

Really I'm just asking people who respect the other community to come together and make it that much better, but based off of your post, it's clear you haven't reached that level of maturity yet. With time, it'll come, but until then this thread's not for you. :)

It's still WELL worth it to go to Genesis from anywhere in the world if you are good enough, that's not even an issue regardless. Having an even bigger end prize is not a good motivator for people to go.. and anyways it's too late for that. (Poor people get poorer while the rich gets richer) Whoever is coming right now is coming, and that's it. It's not all about the money, it's about everyone that comes to the tournament for the experience.. it's one of a kind.

I would have entered Brawl if the trip wasn't already costing me just under $500, and I live in AZ! ><
