Turning off Obstacles

So while playing Melee on Yoshi's Story I was about to land a devastating knee, until a shyaway came out of nowhere and slowed me down enough that my friend could land a forward smash on me, So i was thinking, in Brawl should there be an option to turn off obstacles? I think that it would make stages more neutral, while we're playing for fun the obstacles can be turned on, so what do you think?

Note:I searched but didn't find anything about this.

The idea to turn off individual obstacles and toggle frequency is a good idea, but on topic I would like to know how much obstacles affect tournament play.

I like the idea of an on/off switch, and I would only hope that tournament rules would be changed to having no obstacles, since they're ******** and imba.

I also like the idea of an on/off switch, since some of my favorite lvls are restricted in tourneys just because of them, and I also think it's unfair how they can kill a recovering opponent at low damage or save an opponent that should have died at high damage.

Maybe some obstacles can be reduced to background effects. Like, for example, in Corneria, if you turn them to background, you'll see an arwing in the distance if it was supposed to be on stage. Or those shyaways in Yoshi's island would be a bit in the background and you could not hit them. With this, the stages won't be so bland, and it won't cause unfairness in tournament play.

I think I've already heard this before, MAYBE. If I did, must have been pushed too far back in my mind.

Nah, screw that option, what would really be -SICK- is if the producers of Brawl threw in more actual tournament stages (I mean look at Melee, sure it had Tournament mode but where the hèll were the awesome tourney stages? they were all just character stages w/ exception to BF & FD, which, obv. get pretty gosh-darn boring after 63rounds of tournament!)

Ill take ANY level over that piece of **** battlefield anyday. I mostly play on FD though just out of habit we pick it. I love all the MLG approved stages with the exception of poké floats (Why is that even approved?) and Battlefield. When I play tournaments i always ban battlefield from the match, and hope the guy doesnt pick poké floats. Aside from those two crappy levels I dont mind where the epic battle is waged.

Two philosphies i think:

1) The levels and their hazards add to the variability of smash. These random occurences can be used to balance things out, or reduce stagnation, jsut by stroke of luck. "Pros" get pissed off because their "l33t comboZ" get ruined by a shy guy flying through, but that is all part of the game. If you don't want hazards, play in one of the levels specifically designed for that sort of play.

2) Obstacles suck and ruin the game. I really like the layout of many levels, but don't play them 'cause of the random hazards that can screw me over, or give me a cheap kill. Fighting should be tete a tete - none of this relying on angry crocodiles and deities stuff.

looks like the on/off works out for both sides. And even with that, they could put hazards in every level if they wanted to, maybe even a hazard scale from' none' to 'Pure Armageddon.'

In final, I really hate the clap traps in Dk levels more than anything. Seeing them burn would make me happy

Another thing about obstacles if the on off switch does come into the game should their be unlock able obstacles? Like in a Mario stage, you could unlock an obstacle with the hammer bros and they come in on clouds and throw hammers. Things like these in my opinion would really make casual games a lot more entertaining, and they could simply be turned off during competitions.

I can't remember what's wrong with Battlefield other than the gravity flux [or is that 1p only?] but for some reason I just don't like it. Can someone remind me what's the problem with that stage?

Anyway, I like that idea, setting frequency would be nice too. I can see that increasing replayability of Brawl.

The only thing wrong with that stage is that in 1p adventure mode it has low gravity, other than that I don't think it has any obstacles in multiplayer. I guess you could say that the problem with the stage is that you can get caught under the platform when recovering.

Also the fact that it's terribly, terribly boring to even look at and it's very low bottom KO line (Can't remember what the term is called).

Yeah, I mostly hear people complain about the strange ledge... hitboxes? I don't know if you can call it that, but how if you get too close to the edge, you can sometimes just slide down the wall to your death. It's kind of a pain, but it's easy to get past if you know your recovery well. As far as obstacles are concerned, it might be a cool idea. I don't really play any other levels very often, though, so I can't pass personal judgment on it.

How it feels like if you fly three feet off the stage you die? Yeah, that's I always pick Dreamland 64. Meh, I could care less about a toggle for obstacles.

Man I really want this on/off switch obstacle thing. It would help make more courses tourney approved, and give more toruney goes more courses to choose. Also some people (like me) hate those annoying clap claps on the DK courses. I swear who doesn't hate those things?

Lol, I thought I was the only one who didn;t like Battlefield. FD is awsome, but Battlefield is real boring in my opinion. I never play most the DK courses because of those annoying clap claps (why can't we kill them?). Same thing with the G&W course, the random falling items and crap totally ruin the course! There are so many ways this option could make the game better.

I poké floats (Why is that even approved?)
Because it isn't random, always moves at the same speed and there's no issues about camera angles changing.

I say deal with it. Something can kill you on low percent on the uncommon times it appears? Stay away from that area, or better yet knock your oponent in. Something could save them? Don't hit them into it, and if they *just* survive, just hit them again.

The only real John about Yoshi story would be the people who play Ness who get screwed by a shy guy flying above them as they do up-b.

I agree that a toggle option can be good for somethings (like to prevent cars on mute city) and also for friendlies but it worries me when it comes to tournies. I like the idea of counterpicking after you lose a match as that gives purpose to obstacles. As a Ness player i think its my right in the game and by the designers to have the ability to counterpick corneria and to abuse the lazering ships that go by with my down b...afterall, Ness was given a down B for that purpose and at the expense of many weaknesses as well. Other characters might enjoy playing with other obstacles as their opponent may not be skilled in how to deal with them. Obstacles in a level are different from items in the likes that they put both players on the same level. I dont think items are turned off becasue they ruin some of the combos of the game, nor are stages turned off for that reason. They are turned off because they give an advantage to one of hte players. Obstacles on stages affect all characters which is why they should be allowed. Some characters might be better at handling an obstacle, and likewise some players might be better at handling an obstacle, but that plays into why you should be able to counter pick these levels. Keep nuetral "fair" unobstacled levels for the first match but for the rest, i want obstacles in the levels i can counterpick.

If there's objects in your way, I think it's a good thing... It can be used as an advantage or disadvantage making the match more interesting!

What does that have to do with the topic? He's suggesting an option, not a complete removal.

Most of the stages in the trailer seem tourney friendly (as well as being the same stage with a different theme, >_<), so this feature doesn't seem as useful in this one as it would be in melee.
