If you've played some of Nintendo's latest sports games in the past few years, such as Mario Power Tennis for the GCN and Mario Strikers Charged for the Wii, you probably noticed a little option available that allowed you to disable all hazards on any stage you play on. An example of this is disabling the lava fireballs on the Lava Pit level in Strikers and disabling the pirhana plants from shooting globs of mud on the Delfino stage in Power Tennis.

Based on these successful games, I'm inclined to believe that Nintendo may also provide a hazard-disabling option in Brawl as well. So far the majority of the stages we've been introduced to have hazards that could potentially make them banned from the tournament scene that will ultimately arise from Brawl. Although we haven't been given a glimpse into Brawl's option menu or extras menu (we probably won't until the game is released), I do think that providing a hazard removal option would be simple and it would cater to those that play Melee on a professional level by opening up a whole lot more stages to be used for tournament purposes.

What do you all think about this? Will Brawl come with a hazard-removal option or will it follow the footsteps of past Smash games and just leave the stages to their own devices?

it seems possible, and would be a good idea. with the amount of customization there puting into the game, it isn't hard to fathom.

the Ultimate Chimera in New Pork City is a perfect example of why we should have this option. it kills you in one hit! D:

I want this option for the Bridge of Eldin stage alone. Its an awesome looking stage, its Zelda, and I can imagine many an epic battle to take place upon it. Its the warthogs, part of the stage blowing up, etc that bother me...

I was thinking the same thing. Mainly the warthogs though. Breaking part of the stage still seems fine to me. I don't want certain levels to be banned simply because of the X factors. Things like the Chimera in NPC, and the claw things on the Halberd should be optional so I hope Sakurai does something like that.

Yeh imo this option is already in. Sakurai is probably aware of the tourney scene and is aware that hazardous stages get banned.
With that said, he's probably had this option in long ago in developement. If they're going to put alot of work into stages they should atleast make them playable.

Am I the only one against this? Seriously, you can't have it like this, because you can't implement all stages without the hazards. Just look back at Melee, and tell me how Poke Floats or Big Blue would have worked. What about Mute City, Rainbow Cruise, or any other stage like that? Tell me it was such a pain when that Banzai Bill came around or Birdo. Even in Brawl there are stages where you can't do change things. Halberd, Delfino Plaza, Rumble Falls, are all examples of this. Shadow Moses Island, Pokemon Stadium 2, and Castle Siege are also stages that would be basically sterile and dull if such a thing was implemented.

You can't remove the hazards in the first place for some stages, and it feels unfinished if you exclude some of them. And if you can't deal with the hazards, then maybe you just need more practice.

I think Pieman0920 is right. I don't know why people complain about the hazards so often; they're really not even a big deal, at all. And I REALLY doubt that you'll be able to shut them off, it just wouldn't really sense to do something like that.

If there was an unlockable stage hazard option it would be one of he best tings ever for the competitive community, making almost every stage except for ones with unreasonable boundaries tourney legal. Unfortunately, Sakurai seems to have become obsessed with the idea that random = fun, so I don't think it's likely that we will see a hazard option.

Hazard option is a good idea, and it seems like a no brain-er option for a developer to put in. But, we'll see.

I think it should be more or less remove hazards that directly hurt you, like the Chimera in NPC or the enemy attacks on Bridge of Eldin. Stages that move around and change like Delfino and Castle Siege are fine. But hey, I'm not getting my hopes up.

Turning off hazards might actually make some stages viable for tourney play.
But because the hazards compliment and help bring the stage to life, I personally think an option for that is not likely.

Yes, perfectly said; just remove those that do damage. And it's not like you HAVE TO use it if this option is in the game. So for those people bashing on this idea just because they like the hazards or think it's part of the stage, just ignore the option to turn it off. Simple as that. The inclusion of this option will make tournament rules better, and doesn't hurt those that don't care about tournaments.

The words were taken right out of my mouth. Exactly. Only remove hazards that impact gameplay, such as creatures that damage opponents or elements that significantly interrupt a fight. And it would be an option, so if you want the random elements you're welcome to, but for those that don't, just click the button to activate!

And for those commenting on there being past posts regarding this, my sincere apologizes for not using the search first, otherwise I would've bumped up an existing thread... :urg: I'm not one for spamming boards - I don't like that any more than most of you guys.

thatd make me so happy cuz im the kinda guy who prefers straight up matches over items, hazards ect. this would also be great because stages like lylat cruise, shadow moses island, bridge of eldin, battleship halberd, norfair and pokemon stadium, already have great layouts, but hazards ruin those for some people like me. but dont get me wrong, i also love stages like that, im just mostly gonna do straight up matches.

yea by hazards Im pretty sure everyone means damaging factors...like...I dunno.......say.....the Ultimate Chimera....(King Bulblin in Bridge of Eldin, the cannon thing in the Halberd which does crazy damage, etc.)

things like lava rising and stage transformations like in Delfino Plaze and in Castle Seige shouldnt be considered 'hazards'...since they arent 'hazardous'....they are what adds flavor to the stage.....now if you think a pink jaw with a rubber duckie of eternal pwnage to you and all of your descendants is the key ingredient to the stage...then I beg to differ...

seeing Castle Seige and Delfino Plaza in the vids actually to me seem like fun because they dont have random things killing you and stuff...like in Big Blue....omg......

I actually love playing on Poke Floats and Mute City. I love playing on Rainbow Cruise and Hyrule Temple(Im so glad New Pork City is in...)...but sometimes I would like my simple Final Destination/Kirby's Dreamland(hate Battlefield...dunno why) kthxbi

To be fair, the "giant laser cannon" on the Halberd takes a long time to even home in and fire, and it's pretty obvious where it's going to blast. It's not like it fires every five seconds.

yea your right.....but still....SOMETIMES...for people who want it...it would be nice to ...kinda remove it for a while....let it be scenery...more options wont cause cancer...they make everyone happy...

Taking away the hazards on the stage means all you want to do is play a boring stage. So nah

Does the word 'Option' ring a bell with you three? It's just an option, not a requierment. you not liking a plain stage is just your own personal opinions.

Some hazards have the tendency to be tedious and broken, so giving an option for those who hate interuptions is a great way to appeal to everyone, which was the primary goal of the Smash Bros project.

Try to think out of your personal opinions please. This option would make everyone happy. Is that a problem?

I'd love hazard frequency options. It pissed me off that in Melee you couldn't turn it up the rate Arwings fire at on Coneria kinda like the way they were in Adventure mode when you killed Fox for the first time.

I love options, the best games normally have the best variety of options.

EFP, they're irrational idiots that probably want competitive smash to die, I don't think you can reason with them.

I wouldn't care either way. If there ever was such an option implemented, I'd rarely ever use it. However, I agree it would be nice for tourneys. But, I don't see how you can think that these hazards are random. They all require skill to avoid, just like the meat of the game.
