so ive played casually for a long time and im looking to learn some real technique. im wondering if theres a certain character that is particularly easy to learn advanced play with or if i should just use who i like .... if i matters i normally use fox, pika, and DK.

thanks for any help

Wow, you got no love yet huh?

Well if you haven't already looked around the forums, i suggest you try just reading up on what you can. I don't know exactly your level of play, but if you aren't Z-canceling your ariels thats a good place to start if you want to be a formidable player.

Smash 64 is a sort of balanced game so experiment with any of the characters

We need to know what level your on before we can really give you any advice

If you dont Z-Cancel start by using link, then use his Down arieal, then just befor he hits the ground press Z (or R) if you hit the ground and your sword sticks in, try again, if you hit the ground with no animation youve done it. practice this till you get it everytime or at least 999/1000 (better if you dont count)

Tell me if your past this or not then ill tell you another thign to work on :p

P.S: MattNF said use CF but thats only after youve mastered the basics of advanced techs. You dont want to try Uair combos if you cant short hop or Z-cancel correctly

It is very difficult to use up to short up so I recommend trying to use the c stick buttons. It makes things so much easier.

Down-C FTW.
yes DownC works well on a default n64 controler, once youve got Z-cancle then work on short hop, my way of learning it (which i think is the hardest way ever but ill tell you anyways) was to use fox and trp to connect 12% with his Down arieal, Z-cancle- Down tilt once you can do that all the rest of the chars seem like nothing :p

There is a visible difference between stick jumping short hop and C Button short hop...it's pretty funny really how they made the stick and button short hops different.

how the hell do you use left c, right and top c are so ergonomically delicious! i only use left c for shine canceling and stuff.
