You can even use Counter off the stage now thanks to Brawl's floatiness and Marth's extended Dolphin Slash.

I guess if he's using Aether for ledge recovery, you could always try to edgehog if you're quick on the reflexes enough to still be able to do it and keep the invincibility frames. If he's getting up onto the ledge, you can short hop n-air or start up a sword dance with the fourth move being the sword rain.

Bah, you can probably do other stuff too, I'm so outdated on this Brawl stuff.

Don't jump into him when he does his Aether or ull get aether-cided. Jump out to gimp him early when he isn't expecting it or close to doing his aether yet, he will die easily from that. Also you could try d-tilting him from the ledge if you know he is going for the ledge when he is high up, but when he is low its harder for that.

Two things.

1.) If he uses Quick Draw (> B) to recover, and you see him charging it, you can simply jump out into his path. Yeah, you'll get hit, but he'll die. You CAN counter if you want, but he will be able to aether/quick draw again afterwards so this is iffy.

2.) If he uses Aether to recovery, do one of two things.
2A.) Counter attack when he's coming down or as he grabs his sword. Be sure to NOT get caught in it on the way up.
2B.) Simply avoid it. Seriously, it'll do great damage, and get you above Ike, which is somewhere you don't want to be, so just avoid it and wait for him to stand up, roll, or jump from the ledge, and you'll have him in a better position for you.

That is how you edge guard Ike as Marth.

marth ***** ike, generally. space his smashes and punish him. he's so slow you can punish practically every missed smash and half his aerials with your OWN FSMASH. and yes, counter the aether. practice the timing.

About Ike's Aether, I'm pretty sure you can counter the way going up and counter it again on the way down without getting hit [So if they go significantly higher than the ledge with aether, you should be able to prepare counter on the way down to get a nice return hit]. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Marth's Counter really ***** Aether.

Also, I've been hit by aether and countered at the top of the Aether cause I somehow DI'd out.

It depends really. How soon the sword hits you from when he threw it, may cause you to counter attack and miss, or in some bad cases, you miss, and then him still be able to hit you on his way down before you counter attack again.

I'm not saying it's not possible, I'm simply giving the sure fire way. Counter attacking when he has his sword and spinning around is also possible, but at that point, why even have a chance of getting hit, when you will deal more damage and better knockback (with less chance of him recovering cause he's lower as well) when you decide to counter when he's falling down?

All in all, it's safer, easier, and much more benificial.

you could drop down and up B from behind him...well on FD this works...it hits him and he bounces off the stage to his death...you could also just charge for him off the stage when he's coming back and then fair him away.....he'll most likely not be able to make it back

Srsly though, either A) back out of Aether's range and wait for him to get back on or B) Counter
Marth was good at keeping his range... but that Ike needs work. Almost too easy for the marth.. being an Ike main.. i hurt a little from watching that ike.. sorry to who ever it is.

On topic though: As Marth ... my friend loves to come off the level and counter Aether. Gimps Ike immediately. If you miss... Dolphin Slash into the level after Ike's is vulnerable. But like everyone else is saying... counter or stay out of range.

if he's using aether, put some distance between yourself and the edge, and start charging a fsmash or shield breaker, and attack when he gets back on.
