Spacing tactics, don't get too close with G&W. Fireball only to interrupt moves, don't fireball spam in general. Bair to flare may be a wise choice against GW...

Sorry but that's all I got, hope it helps...

I dunno if I really have that much useful to say, since G&W is probably Mario's worst matchup. I'll admit that myself maining both characters. It's pretty obvious that this matchup is stupidly one-sided. If I were to hazard a guess, you probably want to be smart with your use of FLUDD and Cape if you want to have any chance here.

If I have some time, I'll look into this matchup.

You stalker, you make me sick!
Bucketing your fireballs does little to nothing... err if you mean bucket as in down b that is. It also gives you an approach staller as he can approach you yet if he wants to not get hit he has to stop and down b. The fireball should not be regarded as useless in this match up yet it isn't as good as it is in other match ups.

Mix-up fireballs and the F.L.U.D.D., and don't worry too much about the bucket (Don't disregard it just pay attention to your opponent's strategy with the bucket and how much they absorb).

*Just a helpful hint: F.L.U.D.D. negates most stall-then-fall aerials such as Mr. Game & Watch's, Toon Link's, and Sonic's Dair*

Game and watch has a kinda slow ground game. When he lands that can be a good time to attack, especially if he is facing you.

Punish the f-air 100% of the time, don't mess this up and Game and Watch isn't as hard as he looks. He's super light but recovers well so try to U-smash like a fiend.

Yeah I think you have more range on him on the ground, plus on the ground you are somewhat faster than him. I believe Mario's stutter-step f-smash has more range than anything he has on the ground. Abuse it and your other smashes as well.

Lol at Fireballs doing nothing when they fill his bucket. 3 Fireballs will give him an attack that does like 35-42% that will freaking kill you. It's totally not worth using Fireballs to get 3 aerials in when he gets this HUGE *** attack in the process.

If you don't believe me, try this equation. Fireballs undiminished do about 6 damage, and the Bucket has a multiplier of 2.8, but the damage caps off at like 66 damage or something, so you have something like this. (6+5+4) x 2.8 = 42

Lol no, his ground game isn't slow. His tilts are super fast and outrange everything you have. You're pretty much screwed in terms of playing against his ground game because he can stop everything you have with well placed attacks.

You have to punish him from the air, because that's where most of his punishable lag is. And that's really hard because that's also where his best attacks are.

D-tilt lol. That has more range than anything Mario has, and he can spam it.

G&W also runs faster than Mario, who runs equally fast as Bowser, Ivysaur, ROB, and someone else who I forgot.

yeah, I've played a couple really good G&W's online. on the ground the only way to put damage on him is to space bairs (but you have to be really good at it) and stutter-step f-smash like some1 else said. try to stay away from fireballs unless you are fairly close and you know he won't be able to react fast enough for the bucket--at close range they can help you stun him so you can get in for a quick f-smash.

when G&W is recovering you can cape his parachute; he will be able to use the parachute again but you can keep caping them if you time it right. if you do it right you can cape him 4-5 times before he can make it back safely onto the ledge or ground.

overall G&W is a very tough matchup for mario, i honestly would recommend picking an alternate character (perhaps Dedede or Metaknight)

Counterpick with Toon Link or Olimar for best results.

Toon Link can spam G&W to death before going for the kill. Olimar is very hard for G&W to approach. These aren't flat out counters, but I'm pretty sure they are G&W's hardest matchups.
