So I just discovered something useful for all those of you trying to unlock all custom moves of an specific character (or just all custom moves in general).

Trophy Rush works just like classic where it has a much higher % to give you customs for an specific character, only this character isn't the one you are currently using, instead it's the last character you cleared classic with.

Me evidence? I did 2-3 Trophy Rush's where about one third of my customs (0-2) were always a Shulk special move. I thought I was just being lucky but then after I cleared classic with Bowser Jr I went ahead and did 5 more trophy rushes. I got 8 Bowser Jr custom moves, a ZSS and a Peach one.

Either I am extremely lucky with my customs or, as I theorize, Trophy Rush has a much higher chance of dropping customs for the character you last cleared classic with.

Since Trophy Rush gives you 4-6 customs per game at my skill level (better people might be able to get more per game) I always get 1-2 Bowser Jr customs per game. They only take 2:30 mins to complete which isn't that long. I think you can unlock an specific character's custom move in about 6-10 trophy rushes or 20-25 minutes of trophy rushing which is the equivalent of running classic mode twice.

I think this is a very helpful tip which is why I made this thread.

Useful posting. I think I also remember seeing trophy rush produce some correlations in its drops that didn't match the character I was currently playing. I wasn't paying careful attention though.

I read somewhere that smash run is the best farming method. I've probably been farming wrong, trophy rush is probbably better. Smash run probably just feels faster because you aren't doing the same thing repeatedly

I guess that depends on how well you do at trophy rush. I haven't really done Smash Run except for the 2 times it took me to get the achievements for the G&W stage so I didn't really count how many customs I was getting but Trophy Rush always ends up giving me 3-5 (sometimes 6 if I do really well) customs. It lasts 2:30 minutes which means I am getting a custom around every 40 seconds. Maybe I'll do the math on Smash Run but it definitely beats classic by a huge margin.

Just curious...but what character are you using in Trophy Rush? The most I've ever got was two, and that was with both Robin and the Doc

I started with Shulk, Up-Tilt spamming and rolling to the right and then Up-Tilting the other side. I discovered though that the Lightning bolt that comes from the top only does so if you stay put for more than 3-5 seconds. As such I started picking mobile characters that could spam some move to break the boxes but then I also noticed that when you're in the air and a box falls on you it slides through you instead of hurting and "slightly stunning" you. But since the red pushing cannons are so big they normally fall of the stage which is one less hassle for you to handle (plus with an aerial character you can just jump and avoid them if they do fall on stage).

So picking a mobile aerial character than can spam moves eliminates 2 of the 3 hazzards (only bomb squares are left) while allowing you to mindlessly destroy the boxes (all you have to care about is staying away from bombs). This is why I am using Jigglypuff currently, but maybe I'll use Wario or MK. I need to test which of them is better. Just move from side to side spamming aerials. I normally get 45-50k points, 20-30 trophies and 3-5 customs (+100-150 gold) on average per game.

I did the "beat smash run with every character" achievement from the challenge board, and got some practice optimizing the grind speed for smash run. I usually get about 5-9 customs a run, for a six minute run, if I'm playing a good character (if I play olimar or something, I can get as few as zero). The equipment and powers and stuff add a lot of depth to what you COULD be doing in Smash Run though, so I figure a pro could do even better.

I found out about the "home screen hack" earlier today, are you basing your trophy rush vs. classic comparison using the home screen hack? Just making sure. Was such a duh moment for me seeing how you could use the home screen to cheat at the prize roulette in classic.

In the interest of sharing farming info, I'll say a little about Smash run custom special strategy:

1. Take damage powers. If you die without healing powers, it's ok, dying doesn't lose you any custom pieces, but failing a Crystal Break Challenge Door does.
2. Wear speed equipment and mostly run around skipping enemies looking for chests and doors.
3. Large Goombas are worth stopping because they have such a good drop rates for such low effort if you jump on them.
4. Once your stats are higher, Kremlings and Starmen are pretty decent victims.
5. I succumb to the temptation to kill other things because it's fun, but those are the main guys that feel worthwhile.

Yes, classic mode in 9.0 gives 2-5 customs per level. You spend at least 3-4 mins on menus (between fights and doing the home menu bug and stuff). Taking into account the "average" which is 3 since you get more 2's, 3's than 4's or 5's, (that's 18 customs) you would need to beat all of classic (including doing the bug) in less than 12.5 minutes to beat trophy rush (or beat 6 fights in less than 8-9 minutes time).

I did more trophy rush. Tried to beat classic with Olimar then immediately go and play trophy rush with jiggs. I got plenty of loot, but which characters received loot seemed pretty random. Olimar didn't get anything.

Maybe there is some correlation more complex than who you last played classic with. Perhaps drops are weighted towards the GSP of each character, for instance.

I can't for the life of me find Trophy Rush in the menus, and Google didn't help me learn how to unlock it... so how do I unlock Trophy Rush?

From the main menu:
Games & More > Vault > Trophies > Trophy Rush
