A way to mindgame your edgehogs!

Double Tap

Near the edge, pivot, shorthop, zair the edge. Tap down then Zair again.

Triple Tap

Do Double Tap. Hang down on your second 'tap'. Drop down, jump, then zair again.

some notes:

I totally mindgamed my friend doing this.
Its flashy (it looks cool that is)
You can grab the edge using 'double tap'
Triple tap uses all 3 of your zairs, so make sure to touch the ground.
Triple tap should hang you almost your full zair length below the ledge.

These have probably been found, bringing them back up there because its -really- weird to see this happen in a live match, and if need be you can always tap Z instead of down to get your invincibility frames.

I called them 'tapping' because only the last zair in the 'tech' actually holds, the rest just tap (stops your momentum pretty much)

It's good advice but....

it's known/old. All Link players do this at least once when getting back on in order to mindgame the opponent. Arkive told us all to do it, Legan does it nearly every time.

Now, if you're talking about deliberately jumping off to do this by pivoting and short hopping, I dunno. I prefer Link be in the middle of the stage, his comfort zone.

Sorry for the bump, found a practical use for this :o

Both Double and Triple taps allow you to get low enough to stop sweetspotting and keep you safe.

Characters this works well to gimp (if you know they are going for a sweetspot)

Falco
Fox
Wolf
Olimar
Ivysaur
Zamus
(Samus/Link if they are going for their tether (have to predict it....))
DK (hangs low enough to keep you safe)
Ganon's side-B
Bowser (keeps you low enough to be safe)
Peach (keeps you low enough to be safe for a while >.> at least.... rofl
Ness/Lucas (either that, or risky a really painful stage spike...)
Falcon's side-B (keeps you low enough... lol)
Zelda's up-B (keeps you low enough to not have to risky getting hit by her explosion)

Those are the only practical ones that I've done this to in friendlies >.>

Run to Ledge > RAR > Zair > down > zair = Double Tap
Run to Ledge > RAR > Zair > down > zair > down > zair = Triple Tap

It's actually somewhat useful, but you -always- have a better option. This just looks flashier :3

You have to worry less about timing it perfectly.

Trying to zair edguard a Wolf has gotten me stage-spiked so many times its not even funny :/ that LAST kick always seems to knock me to my doom.

Other then not having to worry about timing, nothings really different.

Ok, just read the OP again. Basically, it's when you zair the edge but then pull away before you reel yourself in and then zair again to grab it again. I do that by accident sometimes. I guess if it works for you, then do it. It's just not for me.

I don't find zair edgeguarding a Wolf hard, the spacies and Marth I find the easiest. But Ike......I cannot zair edgeguard Ike whatsoever :urg:

learn to time, learn to tech
I think I have the timing down, so I don't bother inputting a tech command when I'm safe :ohwell:

Also, I know how to tech xD I use Snake most of the time (when not playing Random basically) and I have to tech a lot vs Falco's... >.> if I miss a tech, I stage spike myself or if I don't go for the stage, I get spiked by the Falco ....

Plus I hate being bair stage spiked by most chars, so I learned how to tech :lick:

I think it would be nice against bowser and DK actually but, isnt it just easier to RAR zair just above the ledge, it gives you a long zair to hang from and goes really quick.
