"What lo, Dutchman? Another match-up thread?!" Yes. The old one is cool and all, but didn't have much discussion going on and I feel that the information isn't all correct. Not to mention it's pretty much dead. So we'll copy a trend from other boards: Discuss ONE character every now and then. Most people go with weekly discussions, but that would mean there'd be 35 weeks until we have them all. Which is a bit long.

So, every three days a new character will be announced and a summary will be made on the previously discussed character. To start things off, we will start with one of the highest tournament placers right now and also one of our arch-rivals.

First Target: Falco Lombardi

I don't know a lot about Falco, but I can give a straight analysis of his playstyle:

  • Lasers, and plenty of them. SHDL, b-reversal lasers, it all works against Ganondorf, and it works like hell.
  • Chaingrabs much? Just thinking about it hurts. Chaingrabbing to dair spike means instant death.
  • A good aerial game.
  • A good ground game, albeit a bit tough for him to get a kill on-stage.
Things we can discuss:

  • Stages that work against Falco's lasers and/or chaingrabbing.
  • Tips on not getting lasered/chaingrabbed.
  • How to effectively kill Falco.
  • Etc.
I won't be participating in this particular discussion much, as I don't play against good Falco's ever.

Falco is probably ganondorf's worst match up, but for tips on not getting too lasered mix your advance up so that you hop and dash, throw in the occasional roll, it normally throws the falco off at least a little bit, like i said though this matchup is a b**** for manondorf

Luigi's Mansion?

Walls stop lasers.

Less space for aerials.

Close quarters for more Spartan Kicks.

Low ceiling inside=no chaingrab?????????

This would seem like the best counterpick stage for Ganon against Falco, or really any projectile spammer.

^nooo, oh god no :p. Luigi's Mansion ****s up your auto-canceling baadly, not to mention that once he gets inside of a wall your approach is severely limited (even more so because it's Ganon.) If you ever get taken to LM you need to destroy the sh*t outta those pillars.

I'd counterpick Castle Siege against Falco. For the most part, it's a small stage, but the middle section has destructible terrain which can protect you from lasers. There is only one fairly minor problem I see which is if you get grabbed near the blastzone at low percents, Falco can chaingrab you right off the stage to your death, but I personally see this as very unlikely.

Otherwise, I really don't know what to do against Falco besides ledgecamping. =(

To be honest, not many people I play against aren't quite up to tournament level, so most of my analysis is based both from their experience (Because human experience is better than none) and the computers I practice with. (Mostly level 3s, and starting on level 7s to increase speed)

From what I've seen, Thunder Drop works well against Falco in a variety of situations. Because of the new Brawl physics, Falco is easier to kill up than he ever was in Melee. A Thunder Drop with some damage built up can spell death for Falco. Fire Bird is also a good target for a spike.

I haven't played any falco players recently, and I haven't really played that many to begin with. So my opinion on the matter may just be coming from inexperience, but I don't think Ganon has much going for him in this matchup.

The fact that he can chaingrab you from 0 to 50-ish makes you want to play defensively, but that really doesn't work. On top of the fact that he has a stunning projectile, Falco can basically do what he wants without fear of retaliation if he isn't stupid. He's got speed on his side and if he spaces most of his attacks, you won't be able to punish him out of shield. On a sadder note(at least for me) Ganon has no guaranteed followups after the Murder Choke, which means no guaranteed chunks of damage, and no guaranteed KO at higher %s.

That last bit is even sadder when you realize how badly Ganon ***** Falco's UP+B recovery. Nailing a F-Tilt at moderate percentage forces him to use the Firebird and consequently get spiked. Most of the game should probably consist of you trying to get him off of the stage or in the air where things are more favorable for Ganon. D-Tilt has range that may help Ganon (somewhat) safely approach laser campers, and it also puts Falco in bad positions (The Air). Try to focus on a combination of punishing Falco in the air and punishing him when he lands (This isn't really specific to Falco, but it helps to know).

Since this thread is going to be here for about 3 days, I'll see if I could find out more that may be of interest to the topic.
