I just won my auction on ebay for SSBM and want some advice(I've owned it before). I am looking as for what aspects of the game I should learn before brawl comes out. What adv techs do I need(I know none of them, it was a young little game when I played last), what should I not even bother with.

I plan on using a character from this List; anything specific I might need to learn for these characters?
-Mewtwo: Yes, hes a low ier but I remeber liking his unique stlyle
-Ness: Would it be worth it to train w/ him since he might not be back or should he be close enough to Lucas that it won't really matter
-Y.Link: I would prefer using him to Link but his chances are low so I might use Link instead
-Link: Finally a confirmed character, if chances a low on these other characters I will probably use him.
-Samus: (yes this is the last one) I am absolutley going to train with her. She wasn't very high on my chart for a long time but seeing how now the character is now a mix of powerful slow(ish) attacks and ZSS' quick paralizing attacks she is a must for me to try and perfect.

Also don't be afraid to tell how you are preparing for brawl, what characters are you trying to master, what Adv Techs are you learning/perfecting.

With Link (and Y Link) you should try and master the somewhat basic technique of using your shield just before hitting the ground after using your dair (the falling sword attack). This saves a lot of time.

A lot of the advanced techniques from melee have either been taken out or changed in brawl. L-canceling has changed a bit so I'm not sure if you can still use it after an air attack with link or any other character.

Exactly, this is why I would like to know which techs will be helpful/useable in brawl. I don't want to learn a great move from melee only to learn its not even in brawl.

Play with only one character, and you'll get alot better faster.

But yes, practicing melee won't help for brawl.

There isn't much to practice for brawl on melee since the games are so different. I suggest trying out some of the characters you listed on melee and prepare for changes on brawl.

Yes both games are different, in pace and the longer ppl can live. I would suggest just learning some advance moves like L-cancel, crouch cancel etc, but most moves been taken away and most character are different from their melee form,Luckily Peach and Pikachu didnt change alot, but im still upset at Peach' nerfed d-smash

Almost none of the Melee AT's are in Brawl. Brawl works differently, so Melee wont help you very much there.
Melee didn't have AT's.

EDIT: Nevermind, I thought you meant Assist Trophies, not Advanced Techniques.

In this do you mean that bubble shield thingymabob (yes I said it) or do you mean the metal shield on his back (forgot the name or if it is even useable)

Now that I think about it my choices seem to be Link and Samus.

Well it seems I should re-learn the basics of the game,I'd like to be able to kill 3 lvl 9 pc's on one team with a handicap again (no-one in this town plays competitively).

Techs to learn:L-Canceling/wavelanding/crouch cancel/Dash Dance/wavedashing

Any others?

dont practice the wave dashing, since it was removed, it would be worse for your training for brawl.

In the end there is no good way of getting ready for Brawl. If you never played melee start at that. Otherwise just wait and practice the game when it comes out.

Computers are terrible for training.

I's impossible to train for brawl. Brawl is a new game with a different speed and some different physics. All u gotta really do is know how to do some advanced stuff like how to L cancle and waveland, and stuff like that and you will be good.

If you want to be good at Melee, go to the Melee boards and read the stickies. You really need to play a lot of other people if you want to be at any fighting game.

Use Melee just to get the feel of the series. Use different types of characters, figure out how to use each type and which one really works for your playing style. Preaching with the choir here, learning techs by now is like learning calligraphy when we're all using keyboards. Work more on mastering how the game works, not how you can manipulate it.

Something to keep in mind as well. Brawl lets you completely redesign the control layout down to the last button. As you're re-learning everything, think about what you'd want to change around. For years it's just been how it is, now everyone can rethink what buttons they use. Plan ahead, think about it.

I actually am training for Brawl by avoiding Melee as much as possible. I'm trying to un-learn all my Melee habits so I can create fresh ones when Brawl comes out. Seeing how everyone is saying Brawl is a totally different game, I figured I should stop treating it like Melee.
