I'm going to flat-out say that I have lots and lots of more confidence for Kawashima as a character, since uniqueness seems to factor alot more than relavnance other such topics thanks to Rosalina.![]()
Hey, my TetrisI have to say, of the character ideas I've heard before, Dr. Kawashima is one of the worst. Other than obvious jokes like the Tetris L-block, it's hard for me to think of someone I'd prefer Dr. Kawashima to.
Rosalina doesn't help, because, you know, Rosalina fulfills the basic requirements of inclusion and Dr. Kawashima does not. She's not that unpopular, she's not that unexpected, she's not that bizarre, and she's not a real person's head.
Sorry to come in and be a hater. But there's a limit to how much "zaniness" is actually appealing.
I support, by the way.Hey, my Tetris.
I'm the thread owner, here.
This thread any day! Dr. Kawashima would be very unique. If they can put in WFT, why not Kawashima? This thread or Tetrimono's?![]()
I hate to make so many pretty much pointless and short posts, but...Glad you joined the supporters of the floating head, I completely agree too, he would definitely be a very unique character with his distinct look and new kind of attacks involving education.
I hope Dr. Kawashima makes it, he honestly feels very inevitable after we got Wii Fit Trainer, with all this ridiculous bizarre characters, it's hard not to pass up Kawashima.
Him, yeah, I agree. Kawashima probably wasn't big enough to be in Brawl, but now he could probably get in. Especially since it looks like Uniqueness is a key factor, and Kawashima would be really unique, more of a tricky fighter, I'd guess. Sakurai wouldn't go through the paperwork just to add him as an AT.Honestly the best part about Kawashima he requires (a very low) licensing cost for the real Kawashima to approve to have his floating head into the game. The actual head never appeared in Brawl, probably hinting that it requires it. I think that it's somewhat of a good thing, because Sakurai wouldn't really go into all the papers just for Kawashima to appear only as an AT or trophy. Like Geno in a somewhat similar way.
Because Dr. Kawashima was not created by Nintendo, does not belong to Nintendo, did not originate in a video game, is a floating head, etc. And, oh yeah, is a real person. Not named after a real person (before you bring up Dr. Wright), but a representation of a real person. This thread any day! Dr. Kawashima would be very unique. If they can put in WFT, why not Kawashima?
So, question number one: What exactly makes Dr. Lobe so much different than Kawashima overall? What would Lobe do? Besides, it seems to me as if Kawashima is overall repping a much more well known series. I didn't even know who Dr. Lobe was before this thread popped up.Because Dr. Kawashima was not created by Nintendo, does not belong to Nintendo, did not originate in a video game, is a floating head, etc. And, oh yeah, is a real person. Not named after a real person (before you bring up Dr. Wright), but a representation of a real person.
Uniqueness does not outweigh those problems. There's no evidence that uniqueness is Sakurai's only or primary consideration for Smash 4. It matters, yes, but while the newcomers this time are all unique in some way, that's hardly the only thing notable about them. One is a major 3rd-party star heavily associated with the NES/SNES and Nintendo handhelds, one is from a big selling casual franchise, one is a rising star in the biggest video game franchise in the world, and the last is a representative from a very high selling game/accessory for the Wii. All of them are perfectly conventional as far as originating in video games and being people-shaped, not floating heads.
Wii Fit Trainer is not on that level of bizarreness or breaking with previous games, no matter how hard you try to pretend she is. The only similarity is that they're both from "non-games" if you wanna put it that way (one being a fitness program, the other educational).
If you want to support an educational character, how about support Dr. Lobe from the Big Brain Academy series?
![]()
He's created by and belongs to Nintendo, has a much more Smash friendly form, and can provide many of the same "educational" attacks as Dr. Kawashima. He has his cute little baton and hat, he could make use of the timer stand thingie he's on, and he could have a move set that's unique in many of the same ways. The Big Brain Academy games did not sell as well as Brain Age (over 35 million), but they did quite respectably with over 10 million copies. That's more in sales than many series that are in Smash, including Fire Emblem.
I'd be ok with Dr. Lobe being in to rep the educational games. But I could never support Dr. Kawashima. He does not belong and I would actively dislike his inclusion.
I explained it perfectly well in my post, why are you asking this question? So, question number one: What exactly makes Dr. Lobe so much different than Kawashima overall?
What would Dr. Kawashima do? You ask this question as if Dr. Kawashima has a completely obvious move set while Dr. Lobe does not. It would be no harder to make up a move set for Dr. Lobe. At any rate, I'm not a Dr. Lobe supporter, I'm just saying if you want to support a character from an educational game, Dr. Lobe is at least plausible, while Dr. Kawashima is never going to happen. What would Lobe do?
The two Big Brain Academy games have sold around 10 million copies. I don't know why you haven't heard of it. *shrug*Besides, it seems to me as if Kawashima is overall repping a much more well known series. I didn't even know who Dr. Lobe was before this thread popped up.
Reggie is not going to be in. So it's irrelevant.Question number two: So, what if the Regginator is in SSB4? It's the same exact situation. If Reg is in, why not Kawashima?
Hmm. You have outsmarted me... Looks like I'm pretty much lame.I explained it perfectly well in my post, why are you asking this question?
Dr. Kawashima was not created by Nintendo, does not belong to Nintendo, did not originate in a video game, is a floating head, etc. And, oh yeah, is a real person. He's not merely named after a real person (before you bring up Dr. Wright), but is a representation of a real person.
Whereas Dr. Lobe was created by and belongs to Nintendo, has a much more Smash friendly form, and can provide many of the same "educational" attacks as Dr. Kawashima.
I said all that stuff in my post. There's no indication, whatsoever, that Sakurai has relaxed his rules about only allowing characters originating in video games in. There's no indication that he'd see Dr. Kawashima, someone who has appeared in games on other systems, as a special case who is on the level of Sonic, Mega Man or Snake. He'd still require outside consent. What's so special about Dr. Kawashima that Sakurai should go through the trouble to seek it? And why would I think that Dr. Kawashima would want to be in?
There's literally no reason to think he's even possible as a character, much less that he has a chance in hell. It's not going to happen.
What would Dr. Kawashima do? You ask this question as if Dr. Kawashima has a completely obvious move set while Dr. Lobe does not. It would be no harder to make up a move set for Dr. Lobe. Reggie is not going to be in. So it's irrelevant.
"Not being a fighter" is not something Sakurai likes.I hope he's playable.
Popular
Million seller series
Kid friendly
Floating head
Not a fighter(something sakurai likes)
He has everything going for him to be honest. He would rep the educational series.
It's a representation of the real Dr. Kawashima's head. You get my point. You know his floating head did originate in a videogame, I don't think a floating head originated in real life. :9
I must point out that he said he didn't want fighting game characters. That doesn't mean he doesn't want fighters at all. He just doesn't want ones that originated in a fighting game. Not being a fighter has been said to be a plus. Sakurai has actively stated he doesn't want fighting game characters. Yes, some characters have been seen as too non-violent for Smash by its creator but this is not a reason to disregard Kawashima as his devil side is clearly shown.
If you just meant that he's not from a fighting game (like Street Fighter or Tekken), then yes, but that's pretty much irrelevant. Not being a fighter has been said to be a plus. Sakurai has actively stated he doesn't want fighting game characters. Yes, some characters have been seen as too non-violent for Smash by its creator but this is not a reason to disregard Kawashima as his devil side is clearly shown.
YES! This is the explanation I was going for, but I didn't know how to put it.I'm not against the idea of Dr. Lobe, but Dr. Kawashima seems like the better overall choice for a character from the educational genre. Adding Dr. Lobe before Kawashima is like adding Tiki Tong before K. Rool.
