The Pokemon Company International, the little known company that manages the Pokemon brand outside of Asia and operates the Pokemon Championship Series, separate from Nintendo, has announced open commentator auditions for their US Nationals and World Championships tournaments.
In a release, TPCi said that "Auditions are open to US residents who are at least 18 years old. Also, you must be able to attend both the US National Championships, July 4–6 in Indianapolis, Indiana, and the World Championships, August 15–17 in Washington, DC. If you are selected, The Pokémon Company International will cover your travel and hotel costs."
TPCi has been operating the Pokemon Championship Series for the trading card game for over a decade - last year's 2013 World Championships was the 10 year anniversary of the event. The Pokemon video game, this year featuring Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, was incorporated in the Championship Series in 2009. Each year there are thousands of Pokemon TCG tournaments worldwide and dozens of official video game Championship Series tournaments. Last year's World Championships featured $15,000 in scholarships for video game players and TPCi paid for the travel and hotel of over 50 video game competitors to compete in their 3 age divisions.
Those interested in applying will need to create an audition video and must submit their application by April 21st. With an estimated 10 million copies of Pokemon X and Pokemon Y sold competition is sure to be fierce.
If you are interested in competing in the Pokemon video game Championship Series there are Regional tournaments in the US happening this and next weekend. Get full details and locations here. Even though there are massive prizes on the line at these tournaments - the $15,000 in scholarships at Worlds is equal to the prize total for MLG Anaheim - entry to the Pokemon video game events are typically free.
