Hello smashforums community :D

Just seeking a little bit of advice on tourney play, i havent entered a brawl tourney since last may, i won a local one, and then lost my title at another tourney. It was my fault tho, i was playing falco at the time, i played horribly, and was nervous. I seem to get nervous playing in front of large crowds of people. I have a tourney this friday with 100+ ppl entering. I was wondering if anyone can throw out some advice, im going to be listening to my mp3 player to help drown out the crowd, and i do play as MK ;) . So any advice, tourney play with Mk help would be appreciated. Thanks Smashforums. -zeph

Well, what seems to be the issue exactly?

You do play MetaKnight, that makes your matchups definitely easier.

The MP3 tactic you'll implement will probably be effective, and it hypes your mood, allowing you to play much better.

Good luck, what Tournament are you entering if I may ask?

its the Gamestop Halloween Havok Tourney in CT, over 100+ ppl signed up, im pretty excited for it. My only problem was just trying to be cool and calm so i can be patient, not rush in and play smart. I figured its just anxiety from playing in front of a large amount of ppl.

Something I learned from playing concerts in front of lots of people:

Experience.

Play more big tournies and you'll get better at playing in front of people

Pretty much. Whenever I get nervous before big things like tourney matches, I clench my fists hard and breathe in through my nose and out through my mouth to relax. Music actually makes me worse. I need to hear what's going on in the game to do well. But it does get better with experience. I did pretty dang horrible at my first tournament.

Listen to this guy.

I use my MP3 player, however, but not when I'm fighting a snake. It's just a precaution so I know who the C4 is on if it sticks. Just my thoughts .

It's very hard for me to say if I'm nervous, excited or both when I enter a match or anticipate it. I don't know for the most part who anyone is at the tournament besides 2-3 people so I just asume that the person I'm going to brawl is better than me. With this mindset I don't set high expectations for me but instead attempt to excede my doubts. When I start to exceede my doubts in a match I gain confidence and as confidence breeds confidence I begin to get pumped that I'm able to go blow to blow with my competitor or take controll.

If I'm losing I get impressed with my competitor's skill level. If I'm winning I get ultimately suprised that I am. Either way my adrenaline and excitement are always up.
