Past Stages, eh? At least in regards to the Wii U version, can we really expect any from games prior to Brawl though? If so, definitely rooting for Dreamland 64. From Melee, I'd say Fourside, Brinstar, Brinstar Depths, Pokemon Stadium, and Poke Floats (I don't understand why I love that stage so much) and from Brawl, I'd say Lylat Cruise, Castle Siege, Pirate Ship and Halberd is already confirmed. So yeah, there you go.

Yeah, SSB64 doesn't really deserve 5 returning stages. The game only had 9 in the first place, and two of them were completely unplayable (classic kingdom and Yoshi's). Both Halberd and Japes would have been in my top 15 so it's good to see them back. I'm just going to pick 15 from wherever as others have.

That ended up being 7 SSBM stages, 6 SSBB stages, and 2 SSB64 stages which is probably about right when considering that several of the SSBM stages were also in SSBB so really it's about an even split between those two games with SSB64 making a token appearance with its two best stages. I don't think any of the "3 platform" stages like Fountain of Dreams, Yoshi's Story (SSBM), Dreamland, etc. have any reason to return since Battlefield is already a confirmed stage in Smash 4. Most of the remaining excluded stages from this list are stages that are just awful to play on like Temple, Venom, Summit, Hanenbow, etc. though I'm sure we'll see a few of those back (almost assuredly we'll see Temple back). You could argue that Yoshi's Island (SSBM) is awful to play on too and mostly be right, but sorry that stage is a guilty pleasure and just too hilarious not to include on the list. It's actually kinda amazing how much leeway 15 stages really is in including everything I would want, especially since I already have Halberd and Jungle Japes "for free". This topic obviously won't actually affect anything in the game but thanks for it anyway; this was a fun exercise.

Not completely. The models and textures are all imported with the mechanics of the stage emulated using the latest game engine.

15 stages is quite a breadth to want back. I didn't really like most of the Brawl stages, but a version of Norfair would be nice. Rainbow Cruise, Fountain of Dreams, maybe the secret Mushroom Kingdom stage from Smash 64 are what I'd like to see back on the Wii U version.

Pokefloats: I just loved the randomness of it.
Distant Planet: I love Pikmin, and the Bulborb was super fun.
Summit: I love the structure of the stage, and the fish was always annoying but hilarious. The Polar Bear and vegetables were a nice touch.

Not all stages from 3DS are from handheld games (Balloon Fight, Boxing Ring). Likewise, not all Wii U stages are console (Palutena Temple, Kalos Pokemon League)
I mean, yeah, being on a handheld/console does have priority, but not every stage has to follow that rule. A stage like New Pork is too big for 3DS. Especially to the non-XL models (which I have). You won't be able to see your character at all if the stage zooms out, outline or not.
