Hey guys I use Samus as one of my secondaries(Gannondorf as my other) and I was wondering what are the Pros and cons of leaving tap jump on, or turning it off as Samus? Also I was wondering has the Samus community reached a common concensus as to which is better? I ask this because the Marth community is almost unanimous in that tap jump should be left on, however their are a few who play with it off, and their are some interesting tricks which you can do while it is off. Thanks.

You can Screw Attack OoS without tap jump by:

shielding>hold up on control stick>press jump and B (special move button) at the same time

Samus really only needs tap jump for that. Of course, this is up to preference.

My main concern was that you wouldn't be able to Up-B out of Shield with tap jump off, but since you can and according 0Rly's good word it is a matter of personal prefrence my questions have been answered thanks.

Yeah, I knew that Screw Attack OoS would be mentioned, but what I prefer with Samus is that she can use her u-air twice, instead of it being one big jump. That is to say, with Tap Up on, you end up having "up" act as a jump, and therefore the use of "Y/X" plus Tap Up acts as two jumps instead of one. The thing is, you won't notice that you used your second jump unless you've become familiar with it, or if you tap Y/X but end up falling. Besides, I learned that Tudor doesn't have Tap Up on, and so I did the same. Oh, and then there is Pit, my alternative, who looks less goofy when using his Arrow Loop.

I have tap up on, just because it feels faster to control stick jump then c-stick aerial. I use c-stick for ALL my aerials, so it comes in handy when I need that aerial out asap. SH>insta dair>fastfall.

I have noticed what you said sometimes happens to me to. I do not use the c-stick for aerials and I feel as though my style of Samus play is similar to that of Tudor's(although not as good obviously) so I will try playing with tap jump off as Samus a try,thx for the advice guys.

I also have tap jump on. I've been doing it since the first smash game. I tried changing that habit 4 months before brawl came out and it didn't quite work out. =P

Tap jump will make your uptilt require preparation(hold up during a move/maneuver the control stick in a way to avoid jumping). If you don't have Shake Smash, C-stick or you're using the B-stick then you'll lose the ability to freely perform a short hop fastfall upair (requiring preparation). You can still do a short hop rising upair or you could perform a second jump off the ground and then fastfall your upair. The second jump is only slightly higher than the short hop but is also lower than the full hop.

Or you could have tap jump on and your C-stick set to (Attack) since Samus' smash attacks are sub-par.
