tips on approaching?

hey i've been maining sheik since melee and i just started picking her up again in brawl. (my initial impressions weren't so good) I'm starting to like her again though. once i have a character tumbling, or grabbed i'm pretty ok. my issue is with the approach. i'm finding it tough getting in on ranged opponents. any tips?

Don't approach unless its a character who can reflect. Have that person approach you by spamming needles. Try shield grabbing also.

^ i had actually read your thread before haha i made this thread in an attempt to make me more of a versatile player... so i dont have to just spam needles all the time lol i wanna attack to. i dont have too much difficulty getting shielded players its more when they attack me as i'm coming in. the marths and such characters with disjointed hitboxes own me it seems

Don't try to outprioritize anyone, because it won't happen. If the other player is on the offense, Sheik is at her best when guarding. You only need to attack if the other player isn't.

so should i just space people with my needles? keeping them where i want them

I like to force the opponent to guard so I can start rushing him down. But if he's trying to attack me then I'm much better off just punishing whatever he does.

ya i find she's awesome on the defensive side. but i'm used to being agressive from melee. and i like playing like that. so if there's a way to be aggresively successful then i'm all ears

Playing mindlessly aggressive will do you no good in Brawl. Be aggressive when you can, be defensive when you need to. Jumping in to attack when there's a bigger hitbox right in front of you is never a good idea, and you won't beat it with Sheik.
