I always seem to miss pika's body or I go too low.
Any tips to practice this or get the timing down?

  1. Run off ledge
  2. Fast fall
  3. JUMP TO AVOID DYING
  4. PIKAAAAA!
It's all in that jump. A neutral jump halts all of Pikachu's horizontal momentum, ensuring that the bolt hits Pika and prevents a SD. Fast-falling off the ledge gets Pika low enough to where it's actually possible to connect with the cloud and OHKO someone. Another idea is to B reverse a Thunder off-stage, so that the Thunderbolt acts as a wall while Pika returns to the stage to cover the landing.

That actually makes a lot of sense. I think when I try jumping I'm still holding the stick to the left or right, kepping my momentum.
Just getting back into this character, still pretty rusty. Thanks!

Yeah I would do that too sometimes, it's imperative that when you jump you aren't holding any direction left or right on the control stick.
Another thing you can do is b-reverse with thunder. If you short hop over the ledge and thunder, you can hit the direction toward the stage and pika will b-reverse and land. This is pretty good for limiting recovery options. Also you can condition your opponent into making them think you're going to b-reverse, and surprise them with fastfalling and off-stage thunder

Just practice the sequence of running of stage, jumping, then using thunder. It will become muscle memory eventually
