Tips for getting into competitive smash?

(I'm not really sure if this is the right place for this, if not I'm sorry ._.' )

After seeing all the hype, (and getting pretty hype myself) about the E3 Smash tournament, I've been wondering more and more about competitive play.
So now I'm all hyped up and wondering, how does one get into playing Smash competitively?
Are there any tips for playing/finding places to play? Or is it just a lot of practice and luck?

Check the Regional Treads for your area and post in the thread that's closest to where you live. Or start a thread similiar to this one there.

Best way is to just dive into a tournament. The atmosphere itself will get you into the mindset needed to start down the road for competitive smash.
