Timer running out issue?

To start off I want to confirm that who ever has the least damage (assuming same amount of stocks) is declared the winner instead of it randomly choosing a winner.

If that is true then I want to ask anyone if they have seen an issue where the wrong player is declared the winner. (Samus with 0% 1stock and Kirby with 30% and 1stock and Kirby was declared the winner)

The only reasoning for this I could think of after watching the replay is that the Samus died dropping him to 1stock just barely before the time ran out. He didn't have time to even get off the respawn platform before it went to the victory screen.

I also have not been able to replicate this however.

I believe that the winner is now decided by whoever dealt the most damage to the other player during the match. Kirby might have been declared the winner because, although it ended with him having 30% more damage on his last stock, he dealt more damage overall to Samus during her other three stocks. And I do believe that this is something intentional and known, and not a glitch.

And for anyone that doesn't know; Sudden Deaths are currently impossible, because they glitched the game.

Oh okay, that makes sense then. I don't think I like that as opposed to whoever has the least damage on the same stock but clears up the confusion.

On a side note from someone new to competitive smash what is the point in the timer in the first place? Why not just have them finish the match regardless how long it takes?

Tournaments have time constraints because locations are often rented, not to mention it can throw off the pace to have players wait too long for a match to finish.

If there is no timer, it will promote stalling. Stalling is the act of waiting the opponent out, staying back, and spamming projectiles to win the match. With the timer on, it promotes players to be more aggressive, and to make as many KO's as possible before the timer runs out.

Basically, it just promotes people to be more aggressive, which is generally much more interesting to watch than seeing two people stay back and spam Samus missiles Falco lasers all day.

or choose Sonic and go to battle field, jump under the stage and homing attack your heart away.

Also, I really love this change because now people can`t just wait for the other 2 or 3 people playing to get damaged and then go fight.

So to summarize it is mostly for time constraints and for spectator entertainment?

I asked because I would think if a character with great zoning (Link for example) could get an early lead what would be stopping him from trying to run from the fight and spam projectiles and not get forced into an unfavorable engagement? He could just rack up the damage and get kills when he can from a safe distance.

Some characters can deal with this better than others so in certain match-ups the timer could potentially give Link a clear advantage unless I understand incorrectly?

Also, I apologize for my ignorance >.<

It's usually easier to attack and play normally than it is to try and camp for 8 minutes. It's a lot easier to mess up and get a hard punish when trying to camp for 8 minutes compared to playing a normal match, at least that's what I've seen.
