hello, i am the n00b of all competitive smash, and in melle can beat up to a lvl 8 and in brawl up to 9.

anyway, in brawl, i seem to have a problem of smashing when i just meant to tilt-attack, also, in brawl, what is the advantage of a tilt vs a smash??? thank you...

If you want to do a tilt, make sure you don't flick the stick in the direction of your attack, do it more graudually.

As for tilt vs smash, it depends on the character, but in most cases, tilts = faster, smash = stronger. Tilts are usually used to build up damage while smashes are used for KOing.

Well, for some characters, tilts are VERY important. Use Snake; his up-tilt will kill earlier than his up-smash and his f-tilt has more range and is faster than his F-smash

Like the others have said, practice makes perfect, but, if you want a specific drill, I would do this:

-Practice your UTilts with tap jump ON. If you tilt the control stick too quickly, you will do a smash, and if you tilt it slow but go too far, you will jump. This will help ensure that you are only going part of the way with a consistent speed. It should help build up your ability to tilt a bit, although applying it to game situations is really where you will be tested. For that, the only way to practice is to just keep playing.

That's probably a pretty good method of practicing. Although I don't see why you're having that much trouble with it to be honest.

Just keep practicing the speed and pressure you're supposed to put for tilts and smashes. And yes, some characters are better off using their tilts over smashes.

Never said I was. I was just thinking of a way to practice if somebody needed too.

Tilts can combo into or out of aerials, so that builds up damage. Throw in an occasional smash if you think you need it. Otherwise in all depends on your play style.

I guess my "although I don't see why you're having so much trouble" statement should have been directed at the original poster. Sorry for the confusion. I didn't mean that you were having difficulty.
