So if you're from the tidewater area (you know, Newport News, VA Beach, Hampton, Williamsburg), we've got a tournament going down at Arcadia Evolutions in Newport News near the CNU campus. We're playing Brawl on October 24th, 2010. There is a registration fee, but there are a lot of prizes being given away. Come out for some competition!

Confirmed.

Melee. Halo Reach. Starcraft II.

Let's make it happen.

Also: Toasty CAN run the tourney. He has hosted tourneys before and is probably the most expreienced in the area.

PS> These tourneys were pretty big. 50+ people ran in about 4 1/2 hours.

Toasty's a pro.

d'aww thanks :)

for the record: when I say "run it" I specifically mean at the tournament.

I no longer have the time to set up tournaments and fully organize them. But if they're set up for me, date/venue planned, which is done, and setups provided etc, then all I need to do is show up :)

here's a large chunk of my "resume" haha:

If you guys don't know what's up with legit rulesets, do you mind if I have control of that? check the threads I just posted and you'll see the lack of negative feedback with regard to rules :)

I posted the rule sets for both Brawl and Melee.

Though the forums there look fairly new. Idk who may read it or how long it would take.

I remember that people got really mad at me for inviting good players from other regions to a GameOn GrandSlam tournament series [after qualifying rounds for teams, the ultimate winners would receive $1000 [$500 each]

of course without me spreading the word, you're looking at about 9 people willing to drive to NN and pay $10 (IN ADVANCE, LOL) OR $20...on the day of? For just singles? I mean...I'm not mad. I like the idea.

It's just...registering early? I mean I guess if it helps save $10 people might do it but Smashers are very spontaneous/last minute people... =/

Tournament needs more details before you're gonna get a bunch of us from over the water to come up for the Brawl portion. Not enough info and looks like the person running it doesn't really know the game at all.

Plus 20 bucks for a local gig is steep.

The thing that blows my mind is the difference of TEN DOLLARS between pre-reg and on-site reg...for a local........esp when it's not even a known series with momentum carrying it...though they did mention prizes being given away. Sounds like it could be legit.

RHAN you've been there? What's the TV situation lookin like?

I'm sure if Rusty is available, he wouldn't mind running Brawl..maybe? If they need someone to run it, that is.

I would really love it if someone from their company could post here and address people's concerns.

Does anyone here know them or talk to them at all?

Pretty much everyone in CNU has been there. Was there Grand Opening too. The place is a legit spot to host. There's plenty of room. They have a Xbox/Ps3 room. PC room. And a Nintendo seciton out front.

Only problem. HDTV's. I haven't played any of the consoles really except for CoD and that didn't lag from what I could tell. (But HDMI cables I believe were used so that doesn't cause lag).

Not entirely sure how it would pan out with the AV/IN cables. We might be able to bring our own TV's. We gotta ask but they have lots of space to put everything.

Also: I went there yesterday for Starcraft 2. Not Smash. Cuz it was the SCII tourney.

And the TV count they had was like.... 3 HDTV's in the front. and 12 HDTV's in the 360/Ps3 room. They're technologically advance there. But for what we play on it's not very helpful.

Edit: the 17th they're hosting a Halo: Reach tourney that me and Shae are going back up for. We'll talk and plan stuff out then for Smash.

awesome! please do! and I will not endorse a Melee tournament if we can't bring Standard Def TVs when HDTVs are the only alternative...so basically demand that they allow us to bring TVs :) and if they know of anyone who has SDTVs, ask? like if they have the mythical "back," as in "I'll check in 'the back,'" where they store old TVs...that'd be dope

I personally no longer have ANY TVs to bring...so it's up to SoVa to make it work, baby!

Also...confirmation on date/ruleset for Brawl and Melee is crucial...so just reminding you to find out about that, please :)

if I'm not workin on the day of the Reach tourney, I'll be there...but I doubt it [plus, I'm scrubsauce but I can't wait to play good people!]

Well we were gonna play reach, but me and rhan didn't pre register so its 30 bucks if we sign up
and i just had to toss 40 bucks into the sc2 tournament, and 35 bucks into an oil change... i don't think i can afford the halo tourney =[
it's 3v3 and we wanted alex to be our third.

Also, pre registering is 10 bucks (i think you know how to get there right?)
umm, they set pretty random dates so you gotta check pre registering deadlines.
halo one has already passed so its freeking 20 bucks.
