Sirfetch'd? But... why?

Ever since Pokémon Sword & Shield were revealed alongside one another, there has been praise and backlash relating to the amount of effort GameFreak has been putting in the games, the way the game looks and plays, and (as I'm you're aware of) the amount of Pokémon to be found in the games... or lack thereof.

While backlash about the games is running wild, it's always important to remember the positives. GameFreak have recently been trying their best to please the fans by creating both new forms for previous Pokémon, as well as new evolutions! Out of all the evolutions introduced in the game so far, there is one that stands out from the rest. One that fans have been waiting to see for over 20 years. This evolution is known as Sirfetch'd.

(sorry for searing your retinas with the white background lol)

Despite what you may think about Sword and Shield so far, the fact that GameFreak finally gave the fans what they wanted after over 20 years of waiting was a respectable choice. A highly overlooked Pokémon like Farfetch'd finally getting an evolution? Heck yes!

Moveset Potential

So... what makes Sirfetch'd fighter material for Ultimate's DLC? Well, he has a lance, a shield, and some fighting-type attacks to work with. He could also be able to use flying type attacks like Brave Bird or Peck, since despite being a fighting-type only Pokémon, it was once a normal-flying type, completely justifying the use of any flying-type attacks. They could also somehow manage to implement the new Dynamax feature into his move set, but perhaps that would be a bit... tedious. He also has his own exclusive attack in Sword and Shield called Meteor Assault, which can also be used as either a good side special or Final Smash.

The Gimmick

While Sirfetch'd may seem like your average anime swordsman... well, swordsbird, Sirfetch'd could have one stand-out gimmick that could make it seem more unique. The leek... can break! Well... sort of. When somebody first sees Sirfetch'd, probably the first thing that comes to mind is how long the leek is. It's huge compared to Sirfetch'd! In a smash environment, not only would this problem have a solution, but it could also be a great opportunity to bring back a once scrapped concept and bring it back into the spotlight.
You see, the blade on the leek Sirfetch'd is holding has 3 separate parts: the tip, the midpoint, and the base. By missing 5 smash attacks, the tip of the leak will break. Since the tip is also exposed during shields due to it's size, the tip can also be broken if Sirfetch'd is attacked with his shield out. If Sirfetch'd misses 10 smash attacks, the midpoint breaks. This only leaves the base. This gimmick makes Sirfetch'd a very powerful character with great range at first, but if his power is not handled responsibly, your privileges of having such a good range might be removed, only leaving a small sword only about the size of Sirfetch'd himself.

Now, there is a way to fix a half-destroyed leek: Down-Special, A.K.A. Swords Dance. You can charge your sword to restore it back to it's full length, but just like Cloud's Limit Break, it will take some time.

Now, time to discuss a few counter-arguments.

Sirfetch'd wouldn't get chosen over one of the Galarian starters!

The same could have been said for the Johto or Sinnoh starters, yet Pichu and Lucario were chosen over the starters found in their regions. Plus, while finally getting a fully-evolved grass starter to playable status would be appreciated, the fans are seemingly fed up each new Pokémon being a starter. Heck, some of them are tired of Pokémon being added to smash in general. Despite this, Sirfetch'd is the new fan-favorite Pokémon introduced for Sword & Shield, and he probably will be for a long time. Plus, while the starters had numerous memes, none of them have seemed to reach the meme status of Sirfetch'd.

Sirfetch'd would just be another anime swordsman!

Is that really a solid argument anymore? In all honesty, the whole "I DON'T LIKE CHARACTER BECAUSE THEY HAVE SWORD!" argument has basically been thrown out the window ever since extra creative sword-wielding characters like Hero and Cloud made it in. Also, can Sirfetch'd even be counted as an anime swordsman? He's literally the wild duck Pokémon.

Sirfetch'd has too big of a weapon!

Yeah... that's what the gimmick was for. Even without the gimmick, they would most likely scale it down if he got in.

Sword and Sheild = Bad! Therefore, your idea = Bad!

Just because a game looks bad doesn't mean the characters created for that game look bad as well. Personally, out of all the Pokémon generations, SwSh probably have my favorite designs so far! Think what you want about Sword and Shield, but the creation of Sirfetch'd was for a good cause.

Thanks you!

Anyway, if you support his inclusion, let me know so I can add you to the list of supporters. I'll be totally down for it!
Thanks for reading, and have a good day!
